He had me a little worried this morning when I got a higher BG reading than I usually get from him. But he managed to come back down into the greens.

WCR: He's been very snuggly this morning. Was racing around the house after his brefus and then decided it was time for a cleaning and a napus so we went btb. We just got back up about 20 minutes ago. All seems to be going really good. His fur is so soft and shiny and eyes are really bright. He gets more playful with the kittens with each day. The hissy fits have stopped completely and he is now enjoying the company of the kittens.

Morning you two....Happy Day 11 to you both!!! :-D

Raja would give me blues so I began getting up and giving her a snack at +8. By the time AMBG time rolled around 4 hours later,
she was green. You are seeing the drop with Max 3 hours or 4 hours after eating...
So, my suggestion to you would be to test him 4 hours after eating .... :-D

If those numbers get high in the future, it might signal a brewing infection or something and would mean that you should test
him more often during the next couple of cycles to get a good idea of what's going on.
I tested Raja daily I think for a couple of weeks after OTJ, then tapered off cause she has always been in the greens.
some days in the 60s and other days higher but all within range. (she is NOT very pleased when I surprise her nowadays...i end
up giggling like crazy cause her little ear just doesn't bleed like it used to. I can feel her body tightening up and she is willing her blood to stop flowing...she is so funny and I am laughing cause she really doesn't like being tested. It is so beneath her now....I am such a PAIN!)

His after eating numbers show that his pancreas is working....you are both doing great!!! :thumbup

Thanks for the insight Pat. I am guessing that when he throws me these numbers in the 80's to 90's that we are within normal range - yes? I just find it strange that his pancreas is working but he is still staying much higher than some kitties who are OTJ. I always thought we were looking for numbers between 50 to 80 for a normal range.

The first month of him not getting any insulin will probably mean lots of pokusing for him because I am a worrier. I will watch every single move he makes and over analyze it. I will try my best to not do that but after what he has been through, I am so fearful that if I miss something, it will spiral out of control and we'll be right back where we started. Gotta work on that.

I believe up to about 120 is in the normal range. Regardless, Max's pancreas is working -- he brought those numbers back down.

Gabby frequently hisses at Gizmo but, Gizmo is a pest. He's like the younger brother that keeps poking at his big sister because he wants to play with her toys. On the other hand, they head butt, groom each other, and Gizmo absolutely adores Gabby. Gabby is a little less convinced! It's good to hear your guys are adjusting. (And where are the photos?)

Yes...you are right...80s and 90s are normal range.

And yes....you were wrong about looking for numbers in the 50 to 80 range...

There were kitties on trial during Raja's two trials that were like 37 or 42 or something...geeeeezzzz....I used to get so sad....(ok, maybe not THAT low, but it sure seemed like it to me.... ) No one ever said "Wow Raja...that is quite an impressive BG" and she did flunk her first trial...had to go back on the shots for a little while. It doesn't matter in the long run....it's the health of our kitties that matters...not the numbers that might appear a little high to us. The health of the Pancreas is what matters....

If the BGs are within normal range, it is all good. I think Raja is getting lower numbers now than her trial days anyway. Her little Pancreas is working full time all on its own.

Another thing about the worrying....you WILL worry and dread the beep of the meter for awhile...at least I did. When I would see a nice number looking back at me, I would let out a big sigh and then realize I had been holding my breath! Yeah, not exactly oozing confidence. But hey, we are so used to wondering for so long and finally when it comes time to fly solo, we worry. Well, that's what happened to me anyway. The fear went away somehow. I am not afraid of what I will see....cause if she gets high, then that means she needs help and I will be right there all over again if need be. We have worked so long and hard for a healed Pancreas and when it happens, we need time to adjust our mindset to the truth of what has just happened.....

My advice is "don't worry about how you will be worrying"
Just do what you feel you want to do; test when you want to test.... and soon enough, you will relax. It just takes time to get used to ...that's all...
you will be fine...and so will Max and THAT is what is the most important thing...HE is doing just fine...

Re: 2/1 Max PMBG 99 OTJ Trial Day 11

We got green but barely  I am going to do a +4 test on him tonight just to see where he's riding at that time. I've been pretty steadily getting +3's so I'm curious to see if he is dropping any lower than the 80's that I've been seeing.

WCR: He's been pretty lazy today. DH is gone to work today so maybe he's missing his daddy. During this whole OTJ trial he has been home with us because the weather has been too bad to do any sort of construction work. Hope to see a little more activity tonight when his daddy gets home. He had his dinner and is now perched on the cable box preening himself. See ya'll at +4.

Lucy is still mostly in the 80's and 90's after almost a year, I think that is just her normal. I did try my backup meter a couple of times recently (I have some strips to use up that are about to expire), and it read in the 60's! I always thought that meter ran too low, but it was nice to put 60's on her spreadsheet. ;-)
