Thanks for the insight Pat. I am guessing that when he throws me these numbers in the 80's to 90's that we are within normal range - yes? I just find it strange that his pancreas is working but he is still staying much higher than some kitties who are OTJ. I always thought we were looking for numbers between 50 to 80 for a normal range.
The first month of him not getting any insulin will probably mean lots of pokusing for him because I am a worrier. I will watch every single move he makes and over analyze it. I will try my best to not do that but after what he has been through, I am so fearful that if I miss something, it will spiral out of control and we'll be right back where we started. Gotta work on that.
Yes...you are
right...80s and 90s are normal range.
And yes....you were
wrong about looking for numbers in the 50 to 80 range...
There were kitties on trial during Raja's two trials that were like 37 or 42 or something...geeeeezzzz....I used to get so sad....(ok, maybe not THAT low, but it sure seemed like it to me.... ) No one ever said "Wow Raja...that is quite an impressive BG" and she
did flunk her first trial...had to go back on the shots for a little while. It doesn't matter in the long run....it's the health of our kitties that matters...not the numbers that might appear a little high to us. The health of the Pancreas is what matters....
If the BGs are within normal range, it is all good. I think Raja is getting lower numbers now than her trial days anyway. Her little Pancreas is working full time all on its own.
Another thing about the worrying....you WILL worry and dread the beep of the meter for awhile...at least I did. When I would see a nice number looking back at me, I would let out a big sigh and then realize I had been holding my breath! Yeah, not exactly oozing confidence. But hey, we are so used to wondering for so long and finally when it comes time to fly solo, we worry. Well, that's what happened to me anyway. The fear went away somehow. I am not afraid of what I will see....cause if she gets high, then that means she needs help and I will be right there all over again if need be. We have worked so long and hard for a healed Pancreas and when it happens, we need time to adjust our mindset to the truth of what has just happened.....
My advice is "don't worry about how you will be worrying"
Just do what you feel you want to do; test when you want to test.... and soon enough, you will relax. It just takes time to get used to ...that's all...
you will be fine...and so will Max and THAT is what is the most important thing...HE is doing just fine...
