Good evening,

poor Binie is in pain again and her bg shows a rather chaotic pattern. :(

I talked to the vet yesterday and she suggested to try an antibiotic we already used before. Two of the three germs we are dealing with are tested sensitive in the antibiogram. One intermediate, which means the bacteria may react in higher doses. Not ideal, but all we can do at the moment. The specialist suggested to take it for three weeks to be sure, it has done the job. Last time she was on this antibiotic, I didn't notice any side effects, maybe a bit sleepiness but that was all.

She also suggested to do some kind of pain treatment and gave three options: Meloxicam, which is not great for her stressed kidneys but also helps with inflammation. Gabapentin, which would mean I have to block Binie from certain areas in the appartment to avoid accidents. Or an off-label use of Solensia. I opted for the Meloxicam, as it also fights inflammations. As she didn't seem in pain yesterday evening, I decided to wait if she needs it and that was a mistake. This morning she started hiding again and tonight she is still very uncomfortable. I didn't know that the Meloxicam needs some time and a second dose to reduce the pain. Poor girl.

She has diarrhea again and I wonder if parallel to the UTI there is some bowl problem going on, as the diarrhea started last week before we started antibiotics. Or she is constantly pressing because of her inflamed bladder and that makes her poop all the time. I don't know. She can't clean herself anymore and doesn't let me either. I am sure, this also makes her much more uncomfortable.

Two nights ago she had a very long stretch of low blue numbers and I had to feed mc to keep her surfing. I love to see her in that much blue but Binie got angry about the many tests. The next morning I had problems to get an amps, because she was trying to avoid it. That made me reduce back to 3.25, even though she did not officially earn it. I hope 3.25 still gives us enough blues, to keep the sugar out of her bladder. My main goal is to keep her under the renal threshold.

Last night and today we saw these huge drops from very high preshot numbers to even blue today. Seems like tonight she stays high, which might has to do with her pain. I hope she gets better soon.

I hope everyone has a relaxed weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Cecile, thank you so much for the hugs and your kind support! It's hard to see her in pain. :( But our previous experience makes me hopeful, she might be better tomorrow or on Monday. And I am glad that we use an antibiotic which usually does not make her feel too crappy. How are you doing? I hope you have a relaxed weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Diane, thank you so much for your great support! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Yes, I was so happy the vet agreed to talk to a specialist. And that she agreed to meet me without Binie and discuss all the options. That gives me a good feeling we are really doing what can be done. But the vet also mentioned, that Binies situation is serious. :(

I hope you have a great weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope she will feel better soon, poor Binnie.
I am doing Ok, thank you for asking. Some days are better, it is hard but I know it will get easier.
Today I visited a 15-week-old kitten in a pet store, I saw her 10 days ago while I was returning food I bought for Bella, and I kept thinking about her. She was still there. She has a wonderful way of looking at you, very calm and intense. She is there: https://ruffstartrescue.org/view-pet/?id=21101432 I might ask if they need a foster for her, I don't think I am ready to adopt yet, but having a kitten here would certainly be good. She was a stray, I guess they found them as newborns.

Thinking of you and Binie! Such a tough situation :(
:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Seth for your support! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I just hope she gets rid of the pain soon. And referring to your last post: Yes, antibiotics have been used too much in the past. I read that second cause of death in the world is because of multi-resistant germs. We humans created that problem. Hope you have a relaxed day and Bell is in play mood! :cat:

Glad you are taking your time to mourn Cecile. I hope things get easier over time and the beautiful memories you created with sweet Bella become more present than the sadness.

Oh, my god... how sweet is this little kitty! No surprise, she touched your heart. Good idea, to offer to foster her. It will be great for her to live with your family. And I am sure she will make you smile too. Thank you for sharing her pic and your thoughts about her! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Deb! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Binie says thank you for the prayers too. I am so glad we have everything at home now and I don't have to stress her out in some ER. On Friday I was still hopefull she will not go into that much pain anymore and that the antibiotic came early enough. But hopefully tomorrow is already better. Tiger looks good with all the blue numbers!:cool::cool: Hope you have a great weekend. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Madeline, thank you so much for keeping the paws crossed and the prayers! I also hope both the antibiotics and the pain killers work soon. Hope you have a relaxed time with Butch and you can nap after the short night! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Shelly! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Yes, you mentioned another important point, the gut bacteria. And you are right, if the gut is messed up, everything becomes difficult. You inspired me to buy kefir grains and to make kefir for Binie and myself! Thank you so much for that! I send you love and a kiss for Fistuks sweet belly. Hope you have a relaxed weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh Heike, I’m sorry sweet Binie doesn’t feel well tonight:(

I hope the new antibiotics and pain meds will help her soon. It’s such a delicate balance of all these issues.
You’re doing such a wonderful job managing all of her complex issues.
We are sending you both many hugs and wishes for a more comfortable day tomorrow. I hope you can both get some rest tonight
:bighug::kiss::bighug::kiss:

I’m so sorry you both are going through this. I’m so hopefull you’ll have a better report tomorrow after the drugs get started working. Hugs to you both..

You really work hard to make Binie as comfortable and stable as possible. You're doing such a great job navigating these decisions, with so many factors to consider.

Diarrohea can be caused by all the reasons you've mentioned. But I would also consider that with repeated AB over a period of time she's just lost too much of gut bacteria and that's a cause for diarrhoea. That's what happened to Fistuk and since I've learned that I avoided AB at all cost.

Have you seen this post before:
https://www.foodfurlife.com/my-cat-has-diarrhea---what-do-i-do.html#/

I can't say that it helped Fistuk stop the diarrhoea but ECID and you might want to try.

What did help is slippery elm bark:
https://www.rawfeedingforibdcats.or...ark Instructions (for,an hour before the meal.

And I also wasn't worried too much about it binding medications.SEB is also anti-inflammatory, free from any sugar risks and natural.

I hope Binie finds more ease and comfort today :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good morning Shelly, thank you so much for your support, helpful ideas and information! I just ordered slippery elm bark and s boulardii. I suspect that the soft stool might be "mechanically" because she is pressing a lot having that pain in her bladder. But she has these soft stools now and then and it makes absolutely sense for me to try that. Hope you have a very relaxed Sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Deb! She is definitely better today and you will read a more positive report. I hope you and Tiger are fine! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Staci for your sweet support! :bighug::bighug::bighug: Binie is so much better today and so am I. Today is big cleaning day, washing all the sheets and blankets with pee and poop stains. Poor Binie tried to lick them all away. I don't know, it they do it, to not attract predators. But it makes my heart ache to see this. Looks like you had a night you could sleep, happy to see this! I hope sweet Ivy jumped in your bed this morning! :bighug::kiss::bighug:

Let me know how it works for Binie.
I'll cook some for Fistuk tomorrow. He's been having some mushy topping on top of his productions lately :p
