Had no choice but to poke him in the curled ear, he bleed like a pig. I had to use some styptic powder to stop it. Poor boy, he was sleeping on the one ear I prefer to use.

Well, it jumped again. Yep, a marathon not a race! O.o

I just got a Walmart ReliOn meter they are out of the strips- figures. I guess this weekend we will look around. The Bayer meter is expensive in regards to strips. Paying for the name, thats about all.

Check out the Infinity meter at Hocks http://hocks.com/hocks-healthcare/hocks-product/INFINKIT.html the strips are only $16.49 for 50. The down side is that they are only available mail order so you need to plan ahead, If you decide to order it don't use my link but use the green Hocks button on the top of the page. That way FDMB gets an 8% commission to help run the site, but only if you use that green link, don't bookmark either.

Another meter I've heard good things about is the Nova Max http://www.amazon.com/Nova-Max-Glucose-Monitoring-System/dp/B001CUPSNG/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20 I haven't tried it myself though.

Do you put pressure on the ear for 15 to 20 seconds? That usually stops Tess when I get a lot of blood.

Thanks for the info. I have the ReliON for now, will get strips for it and see how it goes. I needed something for a backup and I think the Bayer will be that.

It seems a lot of meters are on the market now. Being a bit of a nerd I am willing to bet the majority of them all use the same circuit boards and configuration systems. Some though due to different quality control standards will no doubt be better than others.

I usually apply pressure, but his curled ear is so goofy sometimes that does not work.

Hello kids where are home! OK, another night to do a check and shot. May we see blue, or at least close to it. Not to fast, a marathon but not a mad race ether!

He is coming down nicely--You are doing a great job--Whatever meter you choose just be consistant--
I use accu check aviva which has pretty expensive strips, but I m using it for a long time now & it wokrs for us..Buddy is a lucky guy having you!
I was out for several hours today & was thinking of Moonie as she has been gong green all week--
They are always in our heads--one day Buddy will be blue or green--you'll be :o surprised!
but happy!

Thanks, I hope we can keep doing this. Those late night checks though are kind of rough. @-) Ouch, have to get to the other job in about 6.5 hours. Argh!

We got a ReliOn meter, but have to get strips later they were out at all the Walmarts! :sad: We got about 25 Bayer Contors left, this thing is expensive! We will stick with the Bayer for now but may go with the the ReliOn later once we have the strips, they are cheaper and use the Bayer as a backup.

He will come down & he will get better!! He's doing well already--Many cats come here in the 500 numbers, and more!! He is responding & you are there --You can & will do it because you love him--Look at all the peeps on this board--They are all like us!!--All caring for their sugar babies--One certain, you have this board, your new family-- they will support & help you like nothing I have ever experienced!!--

It is 322, hit him with a .05 unit. He's so good about letting me stick him. :smile:

Was 281 this morning at 5:30AM, he is on my lap as we type this. But we must be off to the part time job, back around 1PM we hope. Starting a new condo this afternoon, will be able to do more checks being home then.
