YESTERDAY'S THREAD

Happy morning/evening!

Still staying in the blues/greens with the occasional yellow without insulin. Still seems a little high for a cat slated for remission so I might try a drop shot today. Thoughts? considering he's out of DKA I feel like I need to be giving him something, his numbers just keep telling me otherwise.

Needed to do a bit more coaxing to get him to eat too. He has maintained weight over the week but hasn't put on any. It's been super hard to just get him up to a sustained amount--- going to try some more low carb treats today to get some food into him.

Taking blood samples is also super difficult for him! It's good to see him better but he's a very stubborn cat with these kinds of things. Once I get better at it I'm sure it'll be less stressful for him.

Do you give your kitty treats at shot and test times? My kitty used to love freeze dried chicken treats and would jump up on the kitchen table to get them. And when you are able to get a test done, be sure to lay on the heavy praise, kitties love that too!! You are very new at this Feline Diabetes thing and you are doing a great job, hang in there!

Thank you so much!! We tried treats yesterday and it helped for a little bit--- unfortunately he's a very stubborn cat with these kinds of things. He gets stressed out easily and doesn't like to be restrained in any way. Once I get better with the needle I think it'll be less stressful. I use creamy treats since he's missing half of his teeth but I'm hoping to get some of the freeze dried ones soon! Was playing around with my other cat's ears to see how different they are and it would absolutely be way easier to get a sample from her. Fortunately she's not diabetic haha!

Thank you so much! It's definitely been quite stressful but thankfully Hugo is looking a lot better now. Still not in a place where I can fully relax but with enough effort I'm sure we can get through it.

I can relate to how stressful this is for you and Mango! Don't think I'm kidding around when I say, one of the older members told us to practice singing silly songs while giving the shots and tests! And yes your cat will look at you like you are nuts, but it will make both of you laugh you will relax, and :bighug::bighug::bighug:that does reduce stress. Pretty soon these shots and testing will be part of Mango's routine, you are doing a great job!!!

I like the lack of drama with the drop dose last night.

Same! Looks like we even went up. Wondering if I did it correctly or not. I made sure to push the plunger tightly and then release once it was in the vial. We'll see how we go tonight with a second one :]
