Hi everyone,

Today is a good day in Angieland. She's feeling better after her new medication. I'm really happy to know what's wrong and to know that it's going to heal on its own.

I couldn't get a test from Angie this morning - she wasn't having a bar of it.

We had a lovely sail on Sydney Harbour last night - my partner gave me a sunset, champagne, sail boat cruise for my birthday. Rain and thunderstorms were forecast but the rain held out until about 5 mins after we got off the boat. The clouds even parted for us and gave us some sunshine at the start of our cruise. Here are some photos from our cruise, if your interested.

Courtney - I've lived in Melbourne a lot. We used to go down the coast for family holidays to Lorne, Cowes, Port Ferry, Anglesea. I love Warnambool too - I'd love to live there but my partner is a city man and has kids in Sydney.

Lots of vines to all the sick kitties and hugs to people who are worried about them.

Grace

I'm so happy to her Grace is feeling better and you found a wonderful vet!

What great photos. I've always heard Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.m what an amazing gift after all the stress you've had and the health issues.

Hi Grace, Happy Day 5 to Angie!

Love your pics from the cruise! How nice of the weather to cooperate. I'd love to go back someday. My ex lives in Camberwell (suburb of Melb) which is really lovely. We spent most of our time in and around Melb, but as I mentioned, got to travel out to SA along the GOR. I was fortunate enough to have an "authentic" oz experience. We didn't do many touristy things (apart from maybe seeing the 12 Apostles,) and I got to really immerse myself in local culture. You guys have the best Asian and middle eastern food I have ever had! we also got into the routine of buying a bag of lollies every night and enjoying that with a glass of Jacob's Creek Reisling. I'm fairly certain we single handedly kept the safeway bottle shop around the corner in business. I even watched footie (Go Pies!) And my partner introduced me to vegemite (not a fan) and taught me lingo. I am definitely a dag ;-)

Sydney is beautiful, too, though I really like how laid back Melb is. Maybe one day you will get to retire there? ;-) Sunday drives up the Dandenongs are just brilliant. I could see myself living there, but I am pretty attached to the states.

Hope you have a great night!

Hi everyone,

I'm not so happy with the direction Angie's bg numbers have taken this afternoon. There are a few things that might be impeding her progress but I don't know if they could cause the higher numbers:

- Her feeding schedule has been changing every day - I've been exhausted and sleeping in, we've been going to the vets and she's had her breakfasts adjusted around that, and I went out last night and had to feed a bigger 1st dinner when I left and a normal 3rd dinner when I got home. Do they need consistency with meal times?

- She's been to the vet 4 times in the last 5 days and the kids came back today from their mums. Can stress build up and affect bg numbers later on?

- I've given her a new medicine. It's homoeopathic so there shouldn't be any side effects but it has a small amount of brandy in it. The vet said it was minimal. Her dose is half an eye dropper full and she's had one dose today and a half a dose yesterday(floor shot). Could that raise her bg?

- I was feeding her first breakfast and dinner at +9s but I haven't been able to do this because I haven't been able to wake up on time.

- Otherwise there is the obvious one - maybe she'll need to go back on insulin.

If anyone has any ideas of how I can support her better (and keep sleeping because I've overstretched my capacity) I would really appreciate it.

Paws crossed that it's only a blip.

Grace

Denise - thanks for the wishes. I would love to travel in the US! I went to visit family friends in the mountains about 6 hrs out of San Francisco when I was 16 and had a ball. I'd love to go back and see a little bit more.

Marje - some parts of Sydney are very beautiful but the suburbs aren't so much unfortunately! It's lovely to do day trips in - a lot of nature has been left because there are a lot of sandstone cliffs that couldn't be developed on and there is a lot of water - two big rivers, two big bays and the coasts. I think it was my favourite birthday present ever! I see you live in Arizona - I'd love to visit one day! I think of big mountains sticking out of the desert and cacti? Very dramatic. What about tumble weeds? Do you get them? I'm easily entertained.

Courtney - I know Camberwell very well. My family moved a bit but when we lived in Melbourne we were always in the Kew, Hawthorne, Camberwell area. I miss the big trees and the culture of Melbourne. It's a great place to live or visit. My mum lives in Sylvan which is on the other side of the Dandenongs from the city. All I know about Florida is the swamp forests and the only place with crocodiles and alligators!

I've seen many cats have a blip in their trial. Mine did it too.
One blip isn't bad but if it becomes a pattern.

Is there a possibility of contraband?
I often find that mine had a kibble of dog food when I wasn't looking.

Generally on the trial you want them to have small frequent meals... I aim for every 4-5 hours ( and still do) but sometimes they don't like the
selection.
Having an auto feeder helps while you are sleeping or gone for a while. Does Angie have one or do you leave portions out for her to eat while you sleep.

I know Sylvan! We took a drive through there on one of our day drives. Lovely place! I know what you mean about the trees. I love how Maling road is flanked with big trees. My ex lived right near Riversdale Road, and I just adore all the little cafes and shops along it. There's a restaurant called "The Conti" that makes the best lattes and salmon salad sandwiches! Yummmm. We stopped in there for afternoon tea every day.

Florida is a lot like Queensland and NSW as far as climate... very temperate and moderate. It's not really as swampy as you may think. We have the Everglades in South Florida, which isn't really a swamp -- it's actually a river! And yes, we are the only place in the world that has both alligators and the American Crocodile. Florida is a huge state with a population close to the total population of all of Australia (just over 20 million people.) The majority of these people live in South Florida (I am in Miami) and central Florida (Orlando -- Disney World!) Ironically, the further north you go, the more "country" it is. By that, I mean the more "southerner" it is. South Florida is very metropolitan and has a large Latin population. Key West is only 90 miles from Cuba, so we boast a very large Cuban population, but we also have a very large South American population. We have a lot of Venezuelans, Brazillians, Argentinians, etc. There are also a lot of Central Americans living in Miami (mostly Nicaraguan, Costa Rican, Guatemalan) and we also have a lot of Caribbean Islanders living here --- a huge Jamaican, Trinidadian, and Haitian population. I love S. Florida. We have gorgeous beaches, the best fresh fruit and seafood you will ever taste, and so much diverse culture. The dining here is exquisite and you can find any international cuisine your heart desires. Miami Beach is a tourist Mecca, and there you will find visitors and residents from all over the world. A lot of Europeans, and Aussies ,too, come to play in our sand and enjoy our nightlife. Miami is perhaps most notorious for its nightlife. I'm not a big clubber or party person, but there is always something going on. We also have the biggest international bookfair, foreign film festival, and traveling art shows.

 I sound like a travel agent or PSA agent for Miami! If you ever get over to the US, it's definitely a place worth visiting.
