? 14/06 - Freya has a vet visit - advice needed!

Freya has a vet appointment in a couple of days so we can have her checked for acromegaly. If this condition is unusual in female cats (c20%), are there any specific questions we should ask the vet? Some websites I’ve visited about this condition recently have suggested that there is no viable treatment other than radiotherapy or surgery (Cabergoline is barely mentioned) so any links to feline-specific trials/success stories that we can take to the vet would be much appreciated!
As ever, any/all help is gratefully received!

Looks like Freya is starting to see some nice numbers. :) Good job shooting that lower preshot tonight.

The literature (especially older articles) says acromegaly unusual in female cats, but our experience here is that it is not as low as 20%. Cabergoline as a treatment is a recent development. You might want to pass the article attached to this post along to your vet, should she test positive for acromegaly:
New paper on: Cabergoline treatment in cats with diabetes mellitus and hypersomatotropism

Thank you! The Swedish vet system seems to be a bit ‘backwards’ (you’re not even allowed to legally give a kidney cat SQ fluids at home!), so we need to go in fighting for Freya on Friday! Her breathing is already laboured, her BG is still peaking too much & her insulin dosage is ridiculously high for a cat so any/all scientific papers we can bombard the vet with are worth their weight in gold! Thank you!

Freya’s vet visit did not go well, although the vet was happy with her over-all BG levels. Freya’s today fructosamine test was within ‘normal range’, although we were not given a specific number. She’s now been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism though, plus had a potentially malignant tumour removed from her nasal cavity, biopsy result in almost 2 weeks…

We are devastated; not only is Freya struggling with her DM, her little body seems to be throwing extra nasties into the equation at an unnecessary level! Paws in for Freya please, she needs all the help she can get!

You might want to start a new post, to ask about hyperT. Treating it can help the diabetes. HyperT can cause insulin resistance. However, it would be really good if you could get a copy of the lab work and numbers first.
