We can't quite believe how well this thing is going. If you look at the spread sheet can you flip to WORLD to see the colours? DH never got around to fixing it for the US. This morning's AMPs were prolly a bit high coz we coaxed him to eat going to bed with a sprinkling of biccies on his food. (only half a dozen for the smell).

I find myself worrying that he's got something wrong that he's not so interested in food any more. This is the least he's been eating for years. I suspect we were always over feeding him - so hopefully he's now grown used to smaller amounts. He's not losing dramatic amounts of weight. He still feels a big boy!

Also the itchy's remain a problem. He was never that fussed about grooming himself. He is licking himself way more than he used to and there are some spots that he's over doing and chewed fur off. I wonder whether the licking is a blessing in some ways as it means he gets exercise which is good for diabetes. He's off read meat which seemed to be making him worse. He's on free range chicken several times a day and one tin of fancy feast starting at 5am. He looks very healthy. We have so many visitors who are constantly commenting on LB's state of well-being. (people think we are eccentrics) I sent the vet the latest figures yesterday. I suggested LB may be his first cat to achieve remission from diabetes.

I am most appreciative for the comments and support I've received from the forum - without this site I am convinced my cat would not be doing anywhere nearly as well.

The Boy sure does look good. I know what you mean, Marilyn. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't still have Shadow with me without the help I've received here.

It's great to hear such a good WCR and a pretty blue and green SS.

Do you think the itchies are food related? Have you tried novel proteins? I'm not sure if you can get duck or venison cat food in Australia but it's often what suggested here.

Nice report...I am wondering if you have seen evidence of fleas. Perhaps a trip to the vet to discuss this itching would be a good thing. My two made a mess of their fur after having a certain brand of cat food and I have a feeling that they also get a bad reaction after eating beef. Glad you guys are doing well...so nice to hear of the success people and their kitties are experiencing! Pretty blues and greens on Little boy's SS!

what a great report to read...little boy's improvement is heart-warming...

and i'm with you 100% on the miracle of the forum...Binks and i couldnt believe our good fortune in finding the folks here.

i prefer to see us all as "charmingly unique and entertaining" rather than eccentric!

great WCR! Our civvie has gone crazy mad scratching herself lately, to the point where she had a ton of scabs on her neck/chin area. Took her to the vet who confirmed this is probably just another part of her allergies flaring up .. she gave us antibiotics for a week, clavamox ...

GO GO LB!!

The forum here is such a terrific resource! Overwhelming at first, but it's always about the well-being of the cats.

Some thoughts about itchiness and food
1) is the FF gluten free variety?
2) i wonder if LB has food allergies and he's getting the itchies. or, maybe it's springtime and he's got other allergies.
3) fleas. euw. i hope that's not the case.
4) eating less might be due to regulating the diabetes- his body can now metabolize and use the nutrients and calories from the food. Someone on here has said that choosing not to treat a diabetic cat means condemning them to a slow starvation. horrible.

glad to hear you are all doing so well!

Little Boy is such a handsome fellow (I'm partial to those big boys  ) and it is great to hear how well he's been doing lately! Yeah!
I hope you can figure out why he is itchy and that it goes away soon. There are some good thoughts in the posts above.

Good luck and give your big Little Boy a huge hug for me.

Yes, it's all very exciting for us to be experiencing the rewards of the FDMB program.

With regards the itchy's. for those with itchy kitties this is what I think LB's sitch might be: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/eosinop ... uloma.html

Little Boy started the downward spiral to diabetes in February with an eosinophilic granduloma on the back of his tongue. It had been there for 18 months when it got so big it interfered with his ability to eat. He went on steriods. The tongue growth has gone down a lot. But he's obviously a very allergic cat coz now he's licked off heaps of fur from his back end. No more fluffy bloomers - and hardly any fur on his tummy - actually chewed fur off one thigh - feels like it's been shaved.

I was also prescribed clavamox but they are so big and he has to take half of one. He is such an intelligent boy (from my side) that he is deeply hurt by this assault on his person. He co-operates with everything else beautifully but he thinks having pills shoved down his throat highly insulting. Even so I'm giving him a tiny antihystamine every day. Diet is an ongoing challenge because of the diabetes and the allergies. Gotta find other food sources - don't believe there is any gluten free cat food in OZ.

We were also prescribed Metacam but I checked on here first and decided NO WAY! (wrote a message to the vet to tell him it not suitable). I'm thinking the vet is regretting giving us his email addy.

The itchy's are such a bit problem for some of us we probably need a separate discussion area.
