Greetings, LL!

Here's Karre's 10th OTJ Day condo. We didn't manage to post our PMBG last night, but I'm putting it in the overview, of course:

11th August

AMBG 5.7/103 --- Fed 1 TSP (all food is loc-carb Fancy Feast).
(+2) 5.0/90 --- Fed 1 heaped TSP because his "breakfast" was smaller than he normally comes and eats.
(+4) 5.2/94 --- Ate 2.5 TSP.
(+6) 5.8/104 --- Ate half a can FF. *Almost* stayed green.
(+8) 6.1/110 --- Damn. Grrr. Want the all-green Karre-Cycle back!
(+10) 5.4/97 --- Even if it's only by a hair. Makes me feel better.
PMBG 5.8/104

Even though Karre's numbers are in the safe, OTJ-worthy sub-120 range 99% of the time, I can't help but worry that the poor little beta cells are struggling a bit - maybe the pancreatitis did weaken his pancreas more than I hoped., and can't quite cope yet on its own? I would hate to think that we tried the trial too soon, but it does seem as though his numbers are, ever so slightly, creeping up overall...

I keep reminding myself that Jill said she really doesn't think we'll have to abort the trial and go back to giving Karre insulin for a while. That's comforting. And I realize if I wasn't testing throughout the day at the moment, I'd be seeing a different picture probably, since *most* of Karre's AMBGs and PMBGs before and during the trial have been green. Ugh. I just don't know what to think.

I keep going back to this question because *if* there were a reason to put Karre back on Lantus, I'd want to address that sooner rather than later.

I know, I know, I keep saying the same thing! Meh.
Dyana comes back today, yay! Missed her

I'm off to make more coffee. Happy Sunday, everyone!
Jane

Well Jane, Karre numbers look pretty darn good to me! Looks like a cat that doesn't need insulin  I hear you about worrying, i worry all the time about Leo, its just what we do i suppose

Thanks for the reassurance, Tracy! You made me feel much better!
And Shai, coffee's coming up! Hope Fitzel's (and Leo's) BG is too
Thanks, both of you, for your kind support!

This morning's numbers so far:
AMBG 5.7/103 --- Ate 1 TSP FF.
(+2) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP FF

 You're very welcome, Shai!

This morning's numbers so far:
AMBG 5.7/103 --- Ate 1 TSP of FF
(+2) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF
(+4) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF

QUESTION: Karre's feeding routine yesterday and (today so far) has been "LC every two hours" (yesterday, Karre either came in and ate of his own accord, which coincided with test times every 2 hours, or we fed him at test time). Around (+6) seems to be when he drifts up into the low blues. Should we continue feeding every 2 hours, or should we switch to every four?

Off to make lunch and then check in on Shai and Fitzel.
Happy cycling!
Jane

Sorry I can't give you any advice on Karre's feeding schedule. But I can say I think Karre's numbers look good too. I think we all tend to worry too much about our kitties. Like Tracy said that's what we do. Hope you have a good day.

Thanks, Carla! Hope you have a good day, too!

I did a little looking around on my laptop and found some more of the funny signage pictures, so I thought I'd post them to give you guys a Sunday Giggle

And these last four, I took on our honeymoon  I think the "Zebra"-sign is my favourite of those four. We never saw no zebra neither. False advertising!!

Morning Jane, I think Karre's numbers are great. See what the experts say, as you know Karre best and it's that gut feeling, too. Thanks on the pics, as always.

Congratulations to Jane and Karre on OTJ Day 11

Mid-Cycle Update:

This morning's numbers so far:
AMBG 5.7/103 --- Ate 1 TSP of FF
(+2) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF
(+4) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF
(+6) 5.6/100.8 --- I'm *so* counting that as green  Karre ate ca. 2 TSP of FF on his own at (+6).

Looks like Karre's pancreas is liking the 2-hourly feeding schedule! Still welcoming thoughts on the feeding question above though. ;-)

Jane

Hi Jane,
I know what you're feeling. I've seem Tuckers BG numbers go from the 60-70s to the 80-90s in the past 4 or 5 days.
It has me wondering too! The only thing I can think of, he's eating much more too.
Oh well, I guess time will tell!
Congratulations on Day 11 OTJ !

Today's numbers so far:
AMBG 5.7/103 --- Ate 1 TSP of FF
(+2) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF
(+4) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF
(+6) 5.6/100.8 --- I'm *so* counting that as green  Karre ate ca. 2 TSP of FF on his own at (+6).
(+8) 6.0/108

Still looking pretty good.
Jane

Jane, I think Karre's numbers look great! A blue accent once in a while does not change the overall sea of green. My 2 cents on testing, now that I have had more ~O) As we learned in statistics more samples increases probability of getting one that is outside the expected (desired  ) range. The experienced folks here seem to encourage evaluating patterns over time not weighting single data points. Kitties are going to have natural variability, we can choose to measure it, but if that is how the cat works, try not to overly worry about an occasional bobble? Karre is setting a good example and Jasper sends his appreciation for the telepathic lessons on the Karre-cycle. :-D

Jane, I am sooo confused as to why you are feeding Karre more frequetnly...LOL....sorry....I thought he was free-feeding previously! I thought if you stopped free-feeding and gave him his meals every 4 hours or so, you would see lower numbers overall.
(I always thought that food raises the BGs and that the mini-meals were fed to kitties who drop hard and fast to keep their BGs from going too low!!!) :-|
You said you were welcoming thoughts on the feeding, so i thought I would just ask.... ;-)

I know that procedures have a way of changing over time so maybe the OTJ trials are different now....

I think Karre is doing great...and you are too! But I do understand your desire to see lots of lowish greens during the trial...been there, wished for the same thing!!
Anyway, I will be interested in reading what others say and learning the present procedures for trials!
I wish you guys all the success in the world!
GOOOOO KARRE!!!!!!!!

Today's numbers so far:
AMBG 5.7/103 --- Ate 1 TSP of FF
(+2) 5.2/94 --- Fed ca. 4 TSP of FF

(+8) 6.0/108
(+10) 6.9/124 --- No food given.

Pat brought up the good point that the 2-hourly meals may in fact be *too* frequent for Karre. Should we switch to 4-hourly tomorrow? But then, 4-hourly is pretty much his NORMAL rhythm, he free-feeds at that rhythm on his own! I'd appreciate some thoughts.

Jane

HI Jane, congrats on day 11. :RAHCAT

I'm as confused as Pat is. I've read that small feedings stimulate the pancreas to secrete insulin. On the other hand, feeding raises the bg, so I am always confused about the best time to feed, and how much.

I usually don't deny Checkers food, even too close to shot, only because he's too thin.

Thank you so much for the beautiful sentiment, in our condo.

not every kitty brings themselves down in 2 hours. alex doesn't and i could name plenty of others. this could cloud your data... make it appear worse than it actually is.

if karre doesn't object, i'd switch to a four hour schedule. if he's unhappy and appears to stress over being fed every 4 hours, try a 3 hour feeding schedule instead.

Hi Jane,
I think that if Karre is used to free-feeding about every 4 hours or so, you should just set the food out and let him free-feed. It looks like he's eating an awful lot of food on that 2-hour schedule. Is there a reason why you are testing so often? It seem as if you are doing a continuous curve. It's very likely that there will be variations and fluctuations. Don't worry so much about them. His numbers are well within range. His personal range may have changed since the last time. I think he's doing great!!

Congrats on DAY ELEVEN, Emperor Karre!

Have a lovely evening/night and a good morning tomorrow,

Thanks for visiting us,

Ella & Rusty
