Georgia and Simon (GA)

Sorry it is been quite awhile since I posted last. Our computer is slowly dying and I can only use it for a few minutes before it shuts down on me. Posting on my phone is just not the same. It is a bad time of the year to have to buy a new computer so I might be waiting until January.

Anyway, Simon has been doing about the same. He has really good blue and green days and then will post a pink number like this morning. I think he is getting upset that he is not the center of attention lately. Unfortunately, my CKD kitty, Cleo, is having some major problems. Her appetite was off so I brought her to the vet on Thursday and they discovered that she has hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver) which is very serious if I can't get more food in her. I am syringe feeding her about 6 syringes of food a day, along with what she is already eating (about a small can of FF and some chicken). I am also continuing to give her fluids each day. From what I understand, if I can't get her weight up she might need a feeding tube. I just am not sure what to do because that is an expense I just don't think I can afford. Please send your magic LL prayers and good healing appetite vines to Cleo.

(((Georgia)))

I'm sorry to hear about Cleo. You might want to think about using a more calorie dense food than FF for her. You may need to use a phosphorus binder with a higher calorie food since I'm not sure what the phos content is. I'd also suggest sending a note to Karrie/Maverick. Karrie is very knowledgeable about assist feeding. I know she recommends the Yahoo assist feeding group to people as a resource.

When you have a chance and your computer lets you, can you update Simon's SS with your doses? I'm also wondering whether your insulin was getting a bit toasty at the end.

Morning Georgia ~O) ~O) ~O)

Bummer on the computer issues... so sorry, been there too, know what hassle it an all be.

it is great to read that Simon is doing well, and posting so many great Numbers. very cool.

I am sorry to read about Cleo. I too would suggest contacting Karrie. When my BJ was so sick with liver issues she was very helpful and knowledgeable. I do believe that her kitty Maverick also dealt with fatty liver. For BJ we did end up with a feeding tube. They are very easy to use, and work very well. I don't remember the expense being too bad, her bill overall was, but we had other issues going on as well. I do believe Sienne is right about needing a calorie dense food - Max Cal (???) I think was recommended to me as well - we too need to get calories into BJ. I wish you luck with everything.

Cleo - we all send as many healing vines as we can find. Be well little one.

Re: 12/9 Simon AMPS 322

I'm glad to hear Simon is doing well and sending heaps of healing vines to Cleo. We gave Zener Wellness Chicken for syringe feeding but he doesn't have kidney issues. Give her something she doesn't eat normally since she might develop an aversion to that flavor. ((((Georgia))))

Re: 12/9 Simon AMPS 322

Thanks for the well wishes for Cleo. I wasn't clear on what I am feeding Cleo. I am actually syringe feeding her Hills AD and then trying to get her to eat the FF on her own. She hasn't touched any of her food today so I will have to syringe more. She also seems to not be urinating very much. I will get the results from the urine culture back tomorrow or Tues. I think she may have a UTI. I'll contact Karrie and ask for some help. Thanks for the advice.

We have missed you! Healing vines for sweet Cleo. I am so sorry. Come on down Simon. It is hard to give them all attention they think they deserve. Big hugs Georgia!!!

Re: 12/9 Simon AMPS 322

Hi Georgia, I am so sorry to hear about Cleo's fatty liver issues and not eating. I was just thinking about you yesterday. Bummer with your computer. Maggie's creatinine has really risen in the past couple months, and she's on daily fluids. She eats Royal Canin Renal LP food which has low phosphorus. She likes it which makes it easy. That might be one you could also try on Cleo. It's very moist and with some water might be good for syringe feeding. Sending you and Cleo lots of vines and prayers. Keep us posted. Scritches to Simon and Cleo.

ETA -- I do see you're feeding the Hill A/D which is also real moist.
