Good evening,

after the brief blue numbers last night Binie had a high night and day today.

The sensor ended today at +6 and I have not installed a new one yet. Today I had the sunlight to look at the prepared spot closely because Binie was lying in front of a window and it looked like an eczema. Friends have been there and they also thought it does not look normal. The skin is flaking a lot and after all my treatments it can't be the old skin-tac anymore. The skin does not feel even but is bumpy.

So I decided to change to ear poking - at least for some time. Last time we did that for four days it worked somehow, so I want to give it a try. I am just unsure when I should poke. Around +2 and then - depending if she went down already or not - at +4 and/or at +6 if she did not go down? I hope we manage.....:nailbiting: Always something new with this girl....

What made me really happy was, that my friends remarked immediately, that Binie looks really good. They saw her in summer and said there is a big change. More alert and in a better mood. I think that too but it is always good to have feedback from someone else.

Hope you all have a great day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, Ivy and I send you best wishes for her skin to heal quickly and for easy pokes over the next few days or however, long you choose to poke her. I hope it’s smooth and she’s a very good girl. I think she will be.

I’m glad you had a nice visit with your friends. I’m sure that was good for all of you. And it was good feedback for somebody to let you know that she looks so good. It’s always helpful when it comes from someone. Who’s a little further from it all and has a different lens on things than we do.

Have a peaceful night:cool::cool:

Hi Heike
I hope Binie’s skin improves quickly with the rest. It may not be an allergic reaction so much as just the skin has trouble shedding normally if there’s always a sensor over it. Or it could be the shaving —at any rate I hope it’s better and your plan sounds good.

I send lots of luck for the ear pokes. Since you have LOTS of info on when she drops from your previous Libres I’d use those as estimates of when to test.

if methos starts high and hasn’t had sudden drops lately I’ve waited as long as +4, but he’s scared me so often I usually get a +2 (since they say it’s a good indicator of how active a cycle will be) or a +3 if he started really high. Depending on that I plan my other tests. Since I feed him about every 2-3 hours a meal or snack I try to time it after at least 2 hours since food. If he were less cooperative I’d probably do +3 and +5 or 6 but that’s because his nadirs tend to be late. If he’s been lower triple digits or has had low amps recently I try for one close to my bedtime just so I can fall asleep :)

I think I found a picture of Heike from a week or two ago when she did ear pokes for several days so successfully, taken after one of the pokes:

Which of course is how we all feel :)

Thank you so much Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug: She was a good girl and let me poke. Seems we are really getting better, which makes me very happy. I just hate to combine it with the injection time. But what can I do....

Ivy has a beautiful cycle today! So happy the increase seems to serve its purpose!:cool::D:cool::cool:

Hi Colleen, I love that picture and it makes me smile! Thank you! :bighug::bighug::bighug: And thank you for reminding me that an allergic reaction is just one possibility. I tend to always choose the worst explanation. And you are right, I have enough data to estimate. I think I will test her at +2 and then see how to go on from there. If she has an active cycle she usually drops fast. So I'll see.... We'll get used to it. I see Methos has a beautiful Klimt cycle today. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good luck with the pokes!
When do you feed her? With Bella I usually do a +3, not +2 because she very rarely goes down then, but Binnie has, so I would do +2. And then whenever you feed her, so she gets used to "test then food" and will be more willing to wait. I typically test Bella at +3, sometimes +4 (because that is when she drops usually, but to adapt, of course. If +3 is similar to pre-shot, I usually skip testing at +4), and then either +5 or +6 if I am home, to catch the low point. It might be interesting to get a test in the later part of the cycle too, I do it sometimes, +9 or +10, if she acts weirdly, mostly, for Bella :) as that will show you whcih direction she is going: if the PS is lower than +10, for example, it might be a good idea to get a +2 to see if she is on a downward trend.

Thank you so much Cecile, great ideas in it! I think a +2 is good for Binie, because sometimes she has early drops. I didn't think about the +10 but I know which pattern you mean. Would be good to catch it. I don't have a fixed feeding schedule for Binie. She gets breakfast and dinner after the two hours fasting but I always have some food out because she is a grazer. Very often she doesn't eat much before her shot but helps herself again after an hour or two when the insulin is kicking in. I try to see it positive: Like that I have to use my brain more to understand her cycles. With the libre I was just reacting passive on what I saw on the reader. Hope you have a relaxed evening with Bella! I had to giggle about the butter on her head. :)

Hi Heike.
I hope that Binie skin heals quickly. I am happy to hear the positive feedback that your friends shared about Binie looking good.
Good luck with the ear pokes. Safe surfing, Binie!
Have a nice, relaxed night.

Thank you so much Madeline! :bighug::bighug::bighug: So far ear pokes are working fine, I just have to work on my timing. Hope you have a great day with Butch! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
