Looks like Bella is back in his lagoon! Good luck with the vet this morning. Bella always likes to keep you guessing doesn't he.

I think these long term kids like to do that every now and then...just gotta keep you on your toes and make sure you're paying attention.

Ok I took Bella to vet and they were suppose to email me a copy of his kidney bloodwork but they forgot I guess, so I will say what I remember
His BUN has gone from 50 to 63, creatinine is a little lower and phosphorus is good, he told me to give Bella 100ml fluids for 10 days straight and put him on purina proplan NF kidney function and I said it’s high in carbs and he said I can adjust his insulin that we don’t want that BUN going to 100 or he’s done, he said there’s no reason doing SMDA, I have been giving him organix chicken as it was on Tanyas site and he said nothing high in protein, I gave him 1t of the food and he ate it right up, any advice would be appreciated and I will call them in the am and get the lab work, I don’t know what to do, and his BP was 150, same as a cpl weeks ago
They also checked his eyes with this bright light all was well
I have noticed he hasn’t been eating as much but lost 1/2 lb
I did put a few numbers in labs tab that I remember

I'm impressed Bella's #s are this good given the vet visit. I'm terrified to put Ittle in a carrier, let alone an actual vet visit, for fear of bringing him out of remission. Bella you just rock!!!:cool: He's getting back to business:D

Longevity in CKD cats is not based on the BUN. If his creatinine is only 2.6 (which is what you have on the lab tab), he does not need fluids. Giving subq fluids is not based on the BUN but on the creatinine and usually one does not start fluids until the creatinine is over 3.5. He should get most of his fluids, at this point, from what he drinks and what you add to his food so give him lots of extra water in food.

Avoiding high protein foods in CKD cats is very, very old school. When a cat is in the very end stages of CKD, it’s smart to reduce the protein but Bella is nowhere near that and he needs good quality protein in the range of 50-60% of the calories he gets.

The prescription renal diets are fine for lowering the P but I never fed them to my CKD cats due to the low protein and horrible ingredients.

I can give you much better input once you have all the labs. I hope he did urine because you need to keep an eye on protein in urine. And he should also be checking his blood pressure every time Bella is there. Every time.

Thanks Marje, yeah he said the fluids would lower his BUN omg! I’m pretty sure it was 2.6, I could be wrong, I was so upset cause he said if bellas BUN got to 100 he was done!!! So stick with the organix chicken?? And yes as soon as they open in the am I’m calling them, I called them 2x to send via email
He is doing urine he said in 2 weeks when he goes for recheck, that’s what he told me

As long as the Organix is lower Phosphorus.
