He is on the higher side of his new normal in terms of pre shot numbers again. He has not gone over 150 in over two weeks but he still trends a bit higher in the morning before he eats breakfast. Of course, an hour after he eats he is a lot lower, in this case, 109.

I have no answers for this cat. He is just "different" than others who go OTJ. He does great as long as there is food in there but the minute he goes a few hours without eating, he trends as high as the number you see above. Still not enough to give him insulin because when he eats, he drops quickly so insulin is not a good idea. Arghhhh! No answers! confused_cat

Re: 12/7 Simon AMPS 143 but +2 84!

Simon's blood sugar at AMPS at 5:30 am before he ate was 143. confused_cat
At +1 he was 109 after eating :o
At + 2 he was 84

What the heck? He is absolutely in normal numbers after he eats and when he has an empty tummy, he has numbers that are not what I would consider ideal :YMSIGH:

But, there is NO WAY, I could him insulin on the higher end numbers (which are between 130-145) as within an hour or two of eating, his pancreas is cranking and giving him lovely numbers.

So, is he in any danger by having higher than the norm pre shot numbers? I do leave him food at night when we go to bed but it is usually still all there in the morning. He sleeps through the night.

Since the time change, he has been coming upstairs to wake us up at 4:45AM. We usually get up at 5:20AM. He runs up and down and meows incessantly until we get up. He heads straight to the test site, ready to start his day.

He has been meowing a lot more lately! Even after he is all set with everything. He is due for a vet checkup (his normal yearly) and a rabies shot.

He has gained some weight recently even though he is eating the same amount - 2 cans of FF classics a day. He is up to 16.2 lbs as of this morning! The lowest weight was when he was diagnosed and that was 11lbs 10 oz. He had been as high as 19 lbs at his heaviest (much too heavy) and he should weight about 12-13 per the vet for his size.

I have NO idea why this cat runs so high prior to food but Sue's explanation may be right...his pancreas is still showing some damage. :YMSIGH:

PMPS 140 :YMSIGH: Not sure why he is so high at the pre shot times and so nice and low in between.

Do you think he gets stressed when he doesn't have food? That'll release some of the stored glucose (glycogen) in the liver.

Maybe a timed feeder would help. Or freezing some for delayed consumption as it thaws.

That isn't it cause he eats on demand and pretty much always has food in his bowl, including when we go to bed. He has certain times of the day he is hungry and he eats and times he doesn't. Just his way...
