I bumped Michelangelo up to 1.25u last night. He ate a TON OF FOOD again yesterday (470 calories!). Ever since I started keeping track of his weight/calorie intake ratio, I've noticed that about every 3-4 days, he goes on an eating binge and then seems to grow a bit...meaning that it's become almost a weekly increase of insulin
I was lucky enough that my parents instilled in me the value of life, regardless of origin and have always been a HUGE advocate of rescue animals. After my last cat passed on and I decided I was ready for another cat again, I waited for over 6 months, turning down opportunities of inexpensive kittens, before finding a kitten (Michelangelo) in dire straits and urgent need. I figure that if they can charge me for the cat, that means there's a great enough demand for that animal that I don't need to worry about its life and I can save the life of another cat who is really wanted by no one. (Unless, of course, the charge goes to prior care and/or the shelter/organization, then I don't mind if they charge.) I'm a total bleeding heart when it comes to animals.
Everyone's advice has confirmed what I was thinking: best time to get another cat is while Mikey is still relatively young enough to get over it and get along with the new family member. :YMPEACE:
I bought the ReliOn Prime yesterday and it reads low by about 10-15 points. Do you add on the discrepancy to the readings? For example, this morning on the Prime, he read at 240. I added 10 points because I've still got a few strips left in my last container of Micro strips, which I'll be using up today. But tomorrow, if I'm using the Prime exclusively, do I need to compensate still or can I just leave it with the lower numbers? What do you guys do when switching between meters?
This is all fairly OCD/nit-picky of me because statistically speaking, there's always a +/-3% margin of error anyway. (Although I'm sure there's probably a greater variance between readings on different glucometers than that!) Honestly, though, I mostly care more about the color than the specific number, so my margin of error is more like +/- a 50-point spread! If anything, it's actually better that the Prime reads low because then I'll catch a potential hypo faster.

Vyktors Mum said:Yay, save a death row kitty! I was always sorry I didn't adopt a playmate for Vyktor when he was young. He might not have grown up hating every critter that he meets, he even tried to attack a 5 day old kitten once![]()
