He still insists on those low blues in the mornings

Low blues are not bad for AMPS. They are practically green with meter variance.

I am curious about whether he is dropping below 50 on this dose.

No Never caught him below 50. I think he only goes to the low 70's (but even in the low 70's he sometimes acts like he is in a bit of a hypo... i.e. becoming a little anxious, starts begging for food etc...) I often think that his normal BG range might be a little higher than that of an average cat, though I can't really judge it because I dont have enough experience or knowledge about it all.
