Nice +3, Checks just may drop by the Lagoon today! Paws crossed for a good vetty visit for Tux.

Re: 12/5 Checkers amps 229+2/212 +3/150

Hahaha, thanks Ann. I just deleted the sentence, to shorten the post and keep it to Checkers. I gotta stop doing that.
I didn't know you had responded. Oops.
I was off looking for higher calorie food for Checks, 'cause he's so skinny.
Turkey& Giblets is the highest, but he doesn't care for it either. :YMSIGH:

Re: 12/5 Checkers amps 229+2/212 +3/150

I think Wellness is the highest at 40 kcal/oz, unless you got to NV raw which is 65. There's also Marje's idea w/ the coconut oil, or Tess's favorite, BUTTER!!!

Re: 12/5 Checkers amps 229+2/212 +3/150

I gave Checkers a taste of coconut oil last night and he loved it. I have to find out what a safe amount would be.
Hmmmm, how much butter would be safe?
I worry about grease and pancreatitis. I don't know how much is too much.

ps: I'm assuming a fraction of a teaspoon, not talking big glob

Re: 12/5 Checkers amps 229+2/212 +3/150

Hi Barb, nice slide for Tux! Hey, it's ok to talk about Tux here, no worries. Sending good Vetty vines. Hope all is well.

Re: 12/5 Checkers amps 229+2/212 +3/150+5/63

Thank you Ann. (Maggie). I don't even remember why I deleted the sentence about Tux.

I said Tux has a vet appt at Checkers' +8, and he should be done dropping by then. Fingers crossed!
I hate when I have to abort a slide, because I have to go out.

OT:
Tux has a nasty rash under his chin. I'm keeping it clean and getting medical help today.

Update on Tux.
He has a "deep" infection in/under chin. Doc cultured the pus.....ewwww, and told me what it was, but I've forgotten the medical word already.
I believe Dr Dave mentioned opportunistic bacteria getting into an abrasion of some sort.
My poor baby's swollen chin, must be hurting him. He's on Baytril.....orange flavor pill....blech! I bought chicken flavored Pill Pockets for him

Hi Barb,
So sorry to hear about Tux's infection, but it's good that it is now being treated. Lots of healing vines for him tonight.

Marje says to start with very little coconut oil: approx. 1/16th of a measuring teaspoon, bid. You can increase when you see how Checks is doing with it. Her Gus, who needs to maintain his weight, gets much more than Gracie and Tobey. Perhaps send Marje a P.M. I bought a bottle of the Tropical Traditions because Marje says it is good for hairballs, but when I bought it I didn't know that it also helps in weight gain (the last thing Rusty needs is to gain weight!)

I didn't know that you have a Cockatiel. We have friends who have one and she is quite a bird. She whistles "Stormy Weather" and the theme of the finale of Beethoven's 9th symphony!

Have a good evening,

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Ohh....poor Tux, sending healing vines for his little chin and hope the Baytril helps clear up the infection. Mags likes the Greenies chicken pill pockets.

Ella, thanks for the info on coconut oil. I gave Checks just a tiny bit yesterday and today. He licks it off my hand, like hairball glop.
I will write Marje and ask more about it. I would love to put a little weight on Checks. I know he will never get his muscle back, but gee, a little blubber would be nice.

My cockatiel, Cassie doesn't talk. She is sitting on 2 eggs right now, with no mate. Her mate, Sundance flew to the bridge a couple years ago. I gave her a little TV to keep her company.

I hope you can find something Checkers likes to help put some weight on him. Maybe the coconut oil will help. Sending prayers for quick healing for Tux's chin.

Healing energy being sent to Tux, poor guy. He'll be feeling much better in a couple of days. Marje swears by the coconut oil. :-D that's great that Checks likes it.
Liz

HI Barb - healing vines for Tux - poor guy. Hope that it all will be better soon.

Very nice day for checks - some green in there. Not too bad of a pmps either, back to the blues for you Checks?

I hope your day was a good one.
