Blitzen was at 82 after 24 hours so. I reduced to 0.10 to get a number I feel comfortable to shoot at. I hate to keep changing the dose but last night I was not comfortable shooting and this morning the 0.25 I feel is just too much. I've been bad about getting numbers throughout the day so I will make it a point to get a few today. I really wanted to get him on a regular steady dose for at least 4 or 5 days straight before doing a curve but I'm thinking a curve is going to have to be done very soon to see what goes on throughout the day.

Yikes on that +2! I hope he got a little food with that. Looks like even .1U might be too much.

He did get food and a low carb treat, maybe I should stop insulin and see where he goes?

Robin, I think for Blitzen's safety, it's best to start a trial. He dove down to +2 today after last night's skip with only .1U and you didn't test again until +5. We recommend testing at least every hour, if not every 1/2 hour when kitty is so low. You want to get carbs into him as soon as he goes below 50 and keep testing to make sure he's safe. Blitzen is pretty low again tonight, and since you don't test at night, let's just see how he does without insulin for now. If his numbers start creeping up, then post and we can see what might be an appropriate dose to restart if he needs to.

I agree with Wendy. Fingers crossed that Blitzen continues to do so well. It does seem awfully suspicious about the food timing, and both Dasher and Blitzen needing insulin and for such a short amount of time. Did you contact the food manufacturer about what happened?

In any case, here are the OTJ Trial Instructions:

Start the trial on the next green pre shot.

If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck with the trial!!!

Once he is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

So he went lower 4 hours after he ate , I updated his sheet. The number this morning was an hour after he ate , not normally how I like to test by hubby feed them too early. Blitzen controls my hubby and he know he will give him food if he cries enough.
Let the trial begin! paws crossed.
