Panzer went to the vet on 11-7-25 & we got the results back on November 10th. I've been super busy but talked with a couple of people & they both said pancreatitis & his kidney numbers were elevated pointing towards kidney disease. Also his liver # was super high this time? If you look at his labs through the years they are all very much the same pancreatitis & kidney numbers. My questions are does he just have pancreatitis all the time??? Are his numbers elevated because he's sick??? He's never had blood work when he was not sick.

Panzer & Spook both have been sick & by sick I mean not eating & puking some. Spook started on November 9th he didn't eat for 28hrs besides what I tried to syringe feed him, I also gave him ondanstran & Mirataz. He finally ate the next day but not every meal. Panzer stopped eating on November 11th at AMPS shot time I knew I had to get him to eat something because I had already given him the insulin. I gave him ondanstran & he ate a half jar of Gerber ham baby food. This went on for days with both of them getting ondanstran & Mirataz & fortiflora on there food. I stopped the S boulardii on 11-2 because it constipated both of them. I stopped the Slippery elm on 10-31 because it was expired. I got new Slippery elm on 11-10 & started them back on it. Panzer has had runny poop, just right poop,no poop I tried reduced Mirilax, no Mirilax I don't know what's going on??? The Zobaline has helped his back legs surprisingly even though he's regulated, but he's had some high numbers here & there so I just try shooting on the other side up high down low & it works or a new pen is the key. I gave him about 50mg of gabapentin in some ham baby food on 11-16 just to see how he responded to it because he's only had the liquid gabapentin. It made him a little sleepy but not to bad, I talked to the vet about his blood work & she said she had not called me because she knew that I would get advice from you guys first (love my vet & that she's ok with that) I stopped giving Panzer ondanstran & Mirataz on 11-18 because he was attacking me while I was trying to test me & he was getting rough with Spook as well.

They are both doing better on eating but we go through a lot of Fortiflora (kitty crack) sometimes I pretend to sprinkle it on there food but they usually catch on little smart butts LOL I've attached Panzers labs if you could please take a look & tell me what you think @Suzanne & Darcy @Chris & China (GA) @tiffmaxee @Wendy&Neko @Sienne and Gabby (GA) @Bron and Sheba (GA) @Bandit's Mom & anyone else who has any feedback. Thank you all so much

Take my thoughts with a grain of salt because I’m just a regular caregiver talking out loud here.

Kidney-wise I don’t see anything crazy though. SDMA steady from 2021, creatinine even came down from 2022. I think I’d be looking at the other numbers, ALT big jump, Amylase higher. Maybe that points to something. I’d have to do more reading about that.

okay thank you...I tried to scribble out the personal info but it didn't work I'm not good on computers at all

My vet always says a high ALT alone unless more than double the high range is not a concern. Max always tested positive pancreatitis probably because he had labs mostly when sick too and it was chronic.

Was a urinalysis done and if so what was the USG?

Sorry to hear both are ill.
Thats good to know since panzers is chronic too
.
Yes his USG/Specific gravity was 1.019

They are doing much better now, but I am relying heavily on fortiflora

Amylase can be elevated from a blood draw. I don’t think kidney numbers are bad either.
Thats also good to know. Im like in freak out mode googling everything, ruling out things & trying to figure out how to get an ultrasound not only are they expensensive but Mr terror kitty would probably have to be sedated & he's almost 14yrs old!!!!

You know. Forti Flora is quite expensive — something I find my cats like sprinkled on their food is sold by Chewy and it’s called Vet’s Best Hairball Relief Digestive Aid. They are tablets that are really too big for a cat (although some of my cats will chew them) but I use a mortar and pestle (or a spice grinder) to grind it to a fine powder and sprinkle it on their food. It works as well as forti flora and better for many of my cats. It has slippery elm and psyllium in it.

I am sure Chewy sells it for less than other places.

These are the same labs that I saw back in early November? I am sorry those boys are giving you such a hard time. I can relate to this with what’s going on in my cat world right now, too.
Yes, I sent them to you and Chris. I've been racking my brain comparing all of the years and putting everything in the lab's tabs. My work has been crazy & the cats aren't getting fed on time, so I've been giving them less at lunch sometimes because it's so close to shot time & I want them to eat all of their shot time meal. That might be affecting why they are eating like they are. Next week I am finally going back on my own though so they will be fed a little differently, but it won't be 7-8hr stretches anymore. im sorry that your kitty's aren't feeling well either.

Yes, it is, thank you I will check it out after I test Panzer.

With a BUN of 44 I doubt he is very nauseated from that — but if he has pancreatitis he could be feeling nauseated and possibly in some pain. BUN can also fluctuate based upon the cats hydration status — so if Panzer wasn’t eating well at the time you took him in — that could have caused his BUN to be elevated also. His CREA is still within normal limits so that’s good. I think I said last time (and Chris, too) that he may have very early stage kidney disease. As one of my vets recently said to me about one of my 14 year old cats…. “I would be very surprised not to see some level of kidney disease in a cat of this age.” But Panzer’s numbers are not really high enough to make a cat feel ill, typically. It’s more like the pancreatitis. There’s a new test that the vets can run in their office now for pancreatitis, and it’s much more accurate than the old snap pancreatitis test. It’s called the Catalyst Pancreatic Lipase test. It is an IDEXX test. Now you don’t have to wait for results.

Is that bad?
Well we like to see that number a little higher because it’s an indication of how well the kidneys are concentrating urine. Even this number can fluctuate though so we look for trends over time. Looking at the whole picture for Panzer right now, I would not worry too much about kidney disease at this point. Is he maintaining his weight?

I found them at Chewy & Walmart for $9.95. I have food on the way from Chewy so I will go grab some from Walmart tomorrow.

I thought maybe these boys had a stomach bug since they both got sick 2 days apart, but I don't know it's a mystery. I did have one glade plug in by my front door after removing all of them a couple of years ago, but I removed it.

I have a cat with chronic pancreatitis and some days he just almost eats nothing. I have to give him Ondansetron, Gabapentin, Cerenia, sub-q fluids, Mirtazapine, etc. to get him to eat (and switch foods a lot.). It’s really tough.

Yes, I put him on the scale at the vet, and she said 17.4 & he was 17.9 last time so pretty much the same, still overweight. You should have seen the terror in their eyes as me & 2 vet techs held him still with a blanket covering his head & front paws while the vet was taking his blood. She warned me before handling him that if he bit or scratched any of us that he would have to be quarantined for 10 days including me... I was thinking oh boy if they think they are taking my cat I'm going to jail.

Aww that is so sad I can't imagine having to do that with Panzer. He does great with pills in pill pockets eats them out of my hand, but he is evil on mirtazapine. I'm so sorry for you & your kitty. I've never given him fluids & I think he'd protest but I would like to try it.

I just wanted to elaborate on this comment. Panzer is overdue for his rabies vaccine. The vet asked me if I wanted her to give him the rabies shot I said no he's sick & he only gets the purevax rabies shot & the clinic that offers it won't see him again unless he's drugged,so I need a script from you for gabapentin to take him there. She also wants him to have it before bringing him back there again. He is a terror at the vet that's what they call him:rolleyes:

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but Chronic Pancreatitis is a long term chronic illness that doesnt go away. They will have flares where its acute and the symptoms vary from very mild to very severe. A cat that is getting a lot of flares should be on a regular med schedule of anti-nausea meds, pain meds, and appetite stimulant and fluids if they arent eating well. You adjust meds according to the symptoms. With both diabetes and Pancreatitis its very important that they eat. That said, the Precision PSL isnt really that accurate as its a test for both dogs and cats. The most accurate test is the Spec fPL which is specific to cats and specific to the Lipase in the pancreas. I run the group Cats with Pancreatitis on Facebook.

I think I'm in that group as well as a couple of other one's. I'm hoping & praying it doesn't come to that. He's usually a very good eater but I do think he needs some extra hydration. I add 3 tablespoons of Walmart drinking water to his 4 meals a day & 2 tablespoons to his one snack a day but I think he needs more & he very rarely drinks water from the water bowl that I have out fresh daily. The only reason we were able to go to to the vet is because DCIN paid for his exam senior blood panel & a urinalysis, they also pay for his insulin.I am so very grateful for them & for Chris because for the first year that Panzer was diabetic I didn't know anything about the feline diabetic group or the FDMB & I don't think he would still be here with me right now without there help.
