KAREN--Is the Itchy Chin from Feline Acne?? Moonie & some other cats here suffer from it--Looks like blackheads or little pimples on the chin..
We have been battling it for a while..If you pick at it, it can get infected, so be careful..Maybe allergies, but the acne is very common..
I got Oxydex from the vet(which is benzoyl peroxide) & I wash chin with hibiclens(skin cleanser & antibacterial) works well..Let me know what chin looks like & maybe I can help--OK?

Yeah, the vet said a combination acne and allergy. I got some "zit" wash with salycilic acid 2% from Walgreen's. But it's a little hard to use. Everything else I saw had a lot of fragrance, which I hate. Where did you get "hibiclens"? How is that different fro the oxydex? Do you use both?

No that Salysilic? stuff didnt work..Ever! You need to wash the area every day with like Hibiclens or betadine, and rinse, then use the oxydex..
Another form of oxydex is benzoyl peroxide, which if you can find it, needs to be 2.5% only, & use just a drop on affected area..Neutrogena makes " On The Spot" which is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide--It's in the drug store..

OK, I am going to Wagreens at noon. So, On the Spot would be the same as oxydex. None of these sting, do they? Do you do like a 50% wash of the hibiclens? Full strength seems harsh. It has alcohol in it.

Man, I could not fine the Neutrogena stuff. ALL the Neutrogena stuff they had had salacylic acid only. Do you suppose just the hibiclens would be enough? Do you rinse it? Maybe I should get rid of their petmate fountain too. It's plastic. I hate to do that, but I suppose that could contribute. I did see some stuff called Panoxyl that was 2.5% benzol peroxide face wash. And there was a gel that was 2%. Would a gel be good? I just don't want her licking this stuff off and right now the pimples are right at the corners of her mouth. Suggestions?

Yes I would try the one that is benzoyl peroxide only-2% gel sounds fine..Hibiclens use 1 part hibiclens and 9 parts water in a bottle & wash chin with that--You just need a little bit..On a washcloth(I cut one up into small squares) and just wet it with hibiclens, wash chin(not in mouth) & rinse with water on the washcloth--Then apply the benzoyl peroxide--It dries up the irritation--Once a day is enough for beginning, & let's see where it goes-OK?
Oh Pearl will just LOVE me for this one :lol:
Does Pearl have a white chin or black?--You should see some change in a week...Paws & fingers crossed.
By the way(BTW) plastic bowls are the #1 cause of feline acne!! Get a nice big glass bowl -mine love it & easier to clean!

Pearl is all black. I know it is usually white chins, but she has kind of greasy fur anyway. I noticed a long time ago the hair *right* under the lip had thinned out. Then gradually this started happening. She definitely gets acne. OK, I will pick up the hibiclens and the little gel after work. If it clears things up and helps, Pearl WILL love you for it.
 
OK, all geared up here with hibiclens and I did find "On the Spot" at the grocery store along with it. I'm leary about using anything too close to her mouth, but it feels like those by her mouth have gone.

She's always higher in the day, so maybe we will see some blue tonight.
