12/30 Cole AMBG 70/ PMBG 81 / OTJ Trial Day 1 / Vet Update - Not Good News

Nice start to Cole's OTJ trial:D! I bet it was nice not to have to measure that teeny tiny dose of insulin!
Keep us posted on the vet visit.

Home from the vet and it's not good news unfortunately. We knew Cole had lost some more weight in the few weeks (now at 17lbs - when he was healthy he was around 23lbs) and we are having to coax him to eat which is very different for him.

The vet thinks Cole has cancer - there is a growth in the soft palate inside his mouth, and it is causing him pain. We're getting a very complete set of blood work done and they will let us know if they recommend seeing the oncology vet, or if it's going to be simply making Cole comfortable. Came home with codeine and hope that will help his pain - certainly explains the sleeping in a dark room all day. And finally his eyes - no longer has an eye infection, but because the eyelids aren't retracting, she gave him a lubricant gel we will start to use. I'm sure that all of these issues with his eyes, loss of muscle mass, and now the growth are related - and we started all the tests and vet specialists in April. I feel like we did everything we could think of and the answer was always we don't know but it's not "fill in the blank". In August, after an ultrasound, MRI and spinal tap, we were told there were no tumours. Feeling incredibly sad tonight.

I will do my best to post - for sure will fill in Cole's spreadsheet as we go through the trial - but may take a bit of break depending on the news tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the ongoing support - I was so looking forward to a happy 14 days of OTJ trial. Hoping it still might end up with some more years for Cole.

:bighug::bighug: Oh no. This is such sad news. Truly hope whatever this growth is, that he will be comfortable with his medication :(
With this sadness, there is joy in the first day of his OTJ trial. :) Keep showing those beautiful numbers, Cole. I hope you feel better soon, sweetheart :bighug:
