The food trial continues! It seems Bear-Bear is holding his own pretty well so far 🥹 the skips continue!

Wondering if anyone knows the best food schedule to support his little hard working pancreas!

Typically we do a can of friskies pate am/pm and a half can for lunch..

Lately its been a full can amps, half can lunch +6, little snack +9, half can at pmps and half can before bed.
I should note he also got a half can at +8 last night as someone was up to feed him early 🥹
 
Typically the food is used to help keep them flat, yes? So looking at your numbers, if you see he dips down at any particular time, that'd be when you'd want to introduce food.
I see you have 2 recent low dips at +7. I'm just tossing this out there cause I didn't see any responses. If it were mine, I'd probably try +3 & +6. The +6 for sure, as that would give enough of a boost to curve those 7 lows.
Hopefully someone can come in soon to help. My little guy skipped all this, as he never had numbers reaching 100 his last week or two. I still feed him 6x a day, just out of habit now. Iwish you and Bear the best! You've got this. ;)
 
I think your current feeding schedule has gotten Bear-Bear this far, so I wouldn’t necessarily change anything. When the pancreas is working nicely, it usually takes 3-4 hours for the pancreas to do its job, so even the little snack last night at +8 was just fine, since he had a nice green preshot. One or two hours after feeding won’t be enough time for the endogenous insulin to affect things.
 
I find it a little concerning since it's low enough for real hypo symptoms and also below what I've heard folks say is normal for a cat not on insulin. Obviously not an expert but if I saw a number that low on my own cat I would start by retesting immediately to ensure it was accurate.
 
Yes the retest sounds like a no brainer lol but were so used to him being low i just assume its right lol i should be retesting though!
 
Also, are you making sure it's the right amount of blood? When I got too little blood on the strip (and could actually happen from over saturation too), my Relion numbers were way off. Just tossing it out there
 
yea i wondered that too! We use freestyle lite for the fact that its supposed to be sensitive to less blood, but i mean anything is possible right, just because its reading it doesnt mean its still enough 🤷‍♀️
 
I used the freestyle lite as well, and it can be a bit fussy with blood, albeit it does only need a small blood drop. Sometimes if it was less of a bead, more of a flat blood sample, it would give me a reading but I knew it was probably wonky. He wasn’t acting strangely at all was he?
 
Since you’re getting close to regular preshot time, let’s wait, since it can take 3ish hours for the pancreas to take on the new carbs anyway. I think he’s jumped through all the hoops I’ve asked of him…;)
 
and then some! His 23 was probably like “see auntie christie, im readyyyy!” Lol
Im going to start carbing him up a bit with some higher lc (mixing a bit of his mc in) and hopefully we can keep him higher into the 60s/70s 🙏
 
oh that came much later today haha bear-bear is always good for a wild card! Is it possible his pancreas is just overshooting at this point? 🥴 I did read about other possible causes (insulinoma, liver disease etc 😣)
 
Yes besides potassium there wasn’t anything else that was a red flag. But he is due for a follow up, just waiting for the holidays to pass lol
 
Im not sure whats going on with mr.bear..
I just so happened to catch a +6.. 28 so i retested for strip error.. 66
Which seemed high for meter variance? So i retested and got 36 and 39 🤷‍♀️

Gave some higher lc
 
I did have to go back to work today so i didnt have time to do an update! SS has some info!

Hes currently at home (on his best behaviour i hope 🤞) propped up with a bit of higher lc.. i might have overdid it on the mc mix, but im gone until +7 today so i didnt want to take any chances with bear-nannigans lol
 
Omg you gave me a heart attack when I didn’t see any updates or BG since +11 :woot:. When you get a chance, post a new thread, I want to share some special instructions, wink-wink, nudge-nudge :p
 
Coming sooon! We had a shiet sleep last night so this morning was busy busy, rush rush.. i didnt have time to get a AMBG but did get a +11 and some overnight #s..
He seemed to do well with a little more mc/lc help. I didnt come home to a heart attack. Unsure of how high he went when i wasnt home 🤷‍♀️
