Just checking in on Munchie. Just got home from work and took her blood sugar and is 110 and she's having her food now. I was going to continue with her usual dose of 1.5 but just posting for support as not used to her numbers being "this good" :) Will be doing checks this evening. Did start a new bottle of insulin this morning as was near the end of the other and think that's probably why she was little higher last night. If folks have any thoughts, let me know.

Thanks.

Well, since you already fed her, then I guess stalling to find out whether she's rising or dropping won't help.
That's a nice PMPS number. I'd go for it, if you have all the supplies you need, including HC just in case, and can monitor tonight. Those are just my thoughts, others may think differently.

I don't have high carb food but I do have karo as emergency. I make her food and it's a raw diet (no carb). I can add some carbs into her food that I make but I usually try not to as had been advised by nutritionist to keep that out if possible for her. When you stall, how long do you wait before retaking the blood sugar? Is 15 minutes enough? Wondering for future times. I can retake her now but of course the food would have affected it some but might still be of interest?

Sorry, my cats were begging to go outside in the freezing cold, so I had to take them.

Yes, to your question about the 15 minutes.

Say, at +12 she was 110, and you checked again at +12.25 (15 minutes later - without feeding) and she was 109 or 111, then you would know she was surfing at the same numbers, or if she was 120 at +12.25 (again without feeding) then you would know she was rising.

If she was 110 at +12 and 95 at +12.25. then you would know she was dropping.
If she was dropping, then you would test again in 15 more minutes (at +12.5)
and if she was lower still, you would probably test again at +12.75, hoping and waitng to shoot the insulin on a rising bg number. But, I would recommend, you posting and asking for advice, until you really know your cat well.

Good hooting, tonight. I would plan on getting a +1 and a +2 to start.

It could not hurt to retest even if you have fed....you just need to keep in mind that the food will influence the test. If Munchie was lower even after feeding, that might influence your decision to shoot...just sayin'. When you stall, it's best to test every 15-30 minutes...you want to catch when the numbers start to rise and shoot ASAP so you don't lose the overlap. Remember that the BG will continue to rise for a couple of hours, so you are really shooting the number that Munchie *will be at* in a couple of hours...does that make sense?

If you have already shot, I would suggest that you start off with a +1 and +2.
