Georgia and Simon (GA)

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone stays warm today up the east coast. Simon is doing well again this morning although he continues to have a ravenous appetite. Of course, he has been like this since he was a kitten. He definitely is not drinking half as much as he was before he was diagnosed and he has lost another 1/2 pound. He started out at 19 pounds a year ago and now he is 14.5. This is a great weight for him and he looks so healthy and full of energy.

I have to tell you an interesting story about my civvie, Cleo. She is 12 years old and is a calico. For the last 10 years, Cleo has basically never left my bedroom and rarely would come downstairs. The only thing she liked to do was sit on my bed all day and never liked to play with any of her toys. In fact, to feed her, I always had to bring the food up to her. This is why I call her Queen Cleo. She was very lazy and fat (20 pounds) and all she ate was dry food. Since Simon was diagnosed, I have changed their diet to all canned lc food. Cleo wasn't too happy at first, but she has accepted it now and has been eating well. I weighed her yesterday, and she is 16 pounds! The best thing is that for two days straight, she has been coming downstairs and hanging out in the kitchen with us. This is unbelievable since she hasn't done that in a very long time. She is also more affectionate and is playing more with her toys. I really believe that changing her food to canned and away from the dry has given her this new happy, fun personality. It is hard to believe how an all dry food can be so bad for cats. Thank you FDMB for your information on canned vs. dry food. I now have 2 happy cats!

Hey there. Now this is a nice story. I guess the Queen wants to come down from the throne. Good job. Happy Monday to you and stay warm grrrrrr....

Re: 12/27 Simon AMPS 105 and civvie story

What a testamonial!! It sounds like all of the changes you've made have not only benefited Simon, but Cleo, as well.

Re: 12/27 Simon AMPS 105 +4 75 and civvie story

Great update.

I do have to get on my soap box though - make sure your cats livers are handling the weight loss. Switching maverick to a senior/low calorie food for weight loss recommended by a vet resulting in him getting Feline Hepatic Lipidosis. And that is a rollercoaster. A cat doesn't lose weight like you and I do when we burn fat to make up for the deficit in calories. Their livers aren't efficient at processing body fat and can clog. So make sure their appetite stays good and make sure you feed them enough that it is very slow weight loss... not rapid.

Glad she is doing so well and being more interactive *clapping*

Re: 12/27 Simon PMPS 64 Do I Skip or Shoot?

I'm worried that Simon is only at 64 at PMPS. I am stalling 20 minutes and re-testing. Any thoughts given that he has been doing so well lately? Is it time for me to reduce down to barely anything?

Re: 12/27 Simon +12 64 PMPS 84 dose decrease

I wasn't sure what to do tonight since Simon's +12 was 64. I waited 1/2 hour and tested again and it had gone up to 84. I don't feel real comfortable giving him the full .25 (although it is such a small amount). I am going to skinny it down just slightly and see how he does. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: 12/27 Simon +12 64 PMPS 84 +2 100

i'm no one to give advise on dose....
hope someone can chime in
ohmygod_smile i must be going senile as i swear i had posted in your condo this morning....i must have dreamt it....i feel like an idiot...but i'm admitting it!!!

have a good night! and Simon as always is looking pretty good....pat on the back for his mamabean!!!

Georgia, that seems like a good plan to me. Normally, we like to see all green numbers for a week before reducing, but his numbers have been very nice, almost all green, so a reduction seems reasonable. If his numbers creep up, don't be afraid to go right back to the 0.25u. Good luck with the dosecrease!

I'm glad that both of your kitties seem to be thriving on the change in diet. I have seen a similar change in my 3 kitties as well with the change to wet food. I have a civie that is about the same age as Tinkles (14) and she has become much more active and sociable since the diet change.
