Today has a higher starting point than other days, but that was because i gave Harry a treat he hasn't has for about a month now - a very small amt. of dry kibble he loves. As his pre-shot number was in the blue, I reduced it a little and was slightly concerned that during that night he would fall into the low greens, as he may have before....so I gave him a treat of the dry. Well, it shows this a.m.
No more for him!!

Does any one else give dry kibble as a treat now and then, or is that not recommended?

Sienne and Gabby - thanks for the note on what you do for travelling....what is considered a "safe dose" for Gabby? (not like I would apply this to Harry, as it's different) . I was wondering if not testing would be ok while I am gone for those 10 days, and purchasing the auto feeder with the 5 or 6 different sections for treats and food during the day would be an idea. ...better than having him stuck in a cage for 10 days, and other people only opening the cage for poking him / testing......
I think that if I were to do this, I would stick with 1 unit twice a day.

But until then, I'll need to peruse my options thoroughly....
Actually had my best friend suggest (she's over in Cali, USA) to take Harry with us.....although with 4 of us staying in (hubby's parents and us) their very small RV for the trip, there's no room for a litterbox, and I'm sure with only 1 hour of road time under Harry's belt he would freak OUT with 4 planes and transfers and travel time to a place he doesn't know. (although the birds and nature-life nearby would somewhat keep him interested.....)

Onto a new day... .

everytime binks has gotten into the kibble...it's skyrocketed his numbers.

i did give it to him once on purpose as i couldnt bring him up with gravy and had to leave...

and, Hello...little black hairy Harry!

celi & binks

Regarding treats, have you tried any of the freeze dried chicken? Or boiled chicken? That would be a low carb treat option. I wonder with the EVO dry being lower carb (not necessarily recommending it), if their TREATS are lower carb as well? But really, if he will eat FD or boiled chicken, I would stick with that. Dyana gives her JD shrimp and he loooooooooooooves them.

I have 2 feeders, that I use for my overweight foster. The 5 meal one I like best because you can set it to an exact time. Though, duchess will only eat treats out of that one. I think the opening is too deep and awkward for her to eat the wet. The 2 feeder I have sets for every 2 hrs. Ive only used it a handful of times. Once it didnt go off.

If you want and timed feeder and Harry has not used one yet, its a good idea to get it before your trip. Some cats have to be 'trained' to eat from it. You want to make sure he knows what the sound means and will eat from it.

Sounds like a fun trip you have planned. My parents are living out of a 5th wheel right now with FOUR cats. I wouldnt recommend that!

Have a good night.
