Here's Christmas Day's condo...

Today: AMPS 294 +4 261 PMPS 280

And to all our Canuck / Brits, have a great Boxing Day! ETA: Oops not to forget the Aussies and NZs too...!

All is fine this morning with Sooty, AMPS a bit high - but after all that Turkey business yesterday, he gets a pass on that, today..!

Stupidest thing of the day, here in Sootyland: I went to fill the syringe for his Gabapentin dose this morning and was wondering why I couldn't seem to find the 0.5ml mark, when it dawned on me that ALL the scale markings have completely disappeared off the doggone syringe! - We must have done a bang-up job of cleaning it, after use yesterday!!! Grrrr... means a trip back to the pharmacy tomorrow, to get a new one (or two????)... Had to eyeball half a syringe-full, (it's a 1ml syringe so I know I can't be that far off - so no worry about OD'ing!!). Wonder what genius designed the stupid thing?

Well, at least you know that you are doing a fine job of cleaning that darn syringe, eh?

Happy Boxing Day to you as well.

Hi Perry,
I didn't know that Sooty was on Gabapentin. What is he taking it for? Are you having it compounded? I give Blackie Gabapentin for his arthritis and it really helps. I buy the 100mg capsules and split it to get the right dose and add it to his food. It's much less expensive that way. I hope you see some lower numbers today.

Happy Boxing Day!

Hi Ele, yes, the vet thought it was a good idea to try him on gabapentin for his lower back / hips, which are a bit tender; plus he has slight neuropathy from the FD. Yes we are getting it compounded... (have to as the human version normally contains xylitol). They made it fishy flavor for him! He's on 20mg / SID - but so far we don't really see it making a whole lot of difference except it seems to make him a bit sleepy for the first hour or two after the dose. Will persevere with the current Rx though, and see how he does. Not sure how long it ought to take to be effective, although we did expect it to act more or less immediately?

I'm glad the gabapentin is helping Sooty...it didn't do anything for our Gussie but he does well with bupe. Good to see Sooty coming down, too!! Hope you are having a great day, Perry.

I hope the Gabapentin works soon for Sooty. With Blackie, it worked almost immediately. How much does Sooty weigh? Blackie gets 33mg SID. He was at 25 mg SID for more than a year before we increased it and Blackie weighs 12 to 13 pounds. It can make them sleepy, but I haven't seen any other side effects.

Sooty's around 16lbs right now, so 20mg SID was just the starting trial does - we'll have talk to the vet about it...

Boxers are great, we had one when I was a kid - softest dogs in the world! Not a great pet for a cat though...! LOL!
