Good morning everybody,
Hope all of you had a good Christmas day yesterday with lots of family time. Gifts are nice, but they don't
last for very long, souvenirs with your family will last forever, it's nice to have some tought. Small Kitty
decided to come out of the red yesterday and gave me a nice blue. On the edge of yellow, but the intention
was there. I think there was really a need for more juice. Marge is true about not to increase while recovering from a bounce but I doubt it was the case for the last week. If he goes below blue it's out of
nowhere, at a time where I sleep and never during the week-end. Can a cat take a full week to recover from a bounce ? I doubt it but there is a patturn with greens showing up once week lately (until I increase).
Small Kitty is back to his usual patturn of high numbers at AMPS, this extra juice is no luxury and I hope
there will be a stop with a dose he can stick on for some time. He seemed to be happy this morning, he and his brother were allowed to go outside for the night. Both jumped on the bed this morning just before
wake up time, that's a great welcome for a work day (Yes I work during holidays, make up for some banked time I can use during summer :) )

*I would like to say thanks to supporters who responded to the yesterday's post. I was destroyed after reading for the entire day about feline diabetes to see if there was not something I was missing. The hardest part was a graph explaining how energy is being release and stopped by diabetes, making the system starving and having to use glucose in urine to stay alive.. what a nasty sickness, hate it !

Enjoy your day !

Sébastien

Urine ketone strips are that expensive in Canada? I don’t mean the blood ketone strips; they are also expensive in the US but the urine ketone strips are not.

Morning Marje, thanks for your posts yesterday (as well as others). I use Ketone strips (for blood). Even if I catch Small Kitty ready to release I'm
very bad at urine gathering + I feel bad disturbing my little friend while he's doing business.. Setting up the litter box for urine gathering is a mess
with 2 cats + I rarely see who's doing what. I thought of using a ladle (big spoon used to take soup out of pots) but never remember buying one.

I think there are times....a lot of them...when you are missing the most important data and that is tests later in the cycle when he nadirs.

I’d be careful about giving increases without some input frome experienced SS readers if you don’t understand his SS and where he’s bouncing and when he’s clearing a bounce. I am sure that yesterday, he was clearing a bounce and you just caught the tail end of it.

I think you might have missed something here. In untreated diabetes, the insulin is not released to pick up the glucose and carry it to the cells which need it to do their work. Thus the kitty starts to lose weight and eat more because it’s cells badly need the glucose.

When there is too much glucose in the blood, the kidneys cannot process it all and so it spills into the urine. The kitty then eliminates it; the glucose in the urine is not used by the kitty to stay alive. An untreated diabetic will eventually die from hyperglycemia (too much sugar in the blood and high BGs. A kitty receiving insulin, even if it is not quite enough, is able to move some glucose from the blood into the cells with the insulin that you inject. However, if it’s not enough, you still see some symptoms and possibly glucose in the urine.

It will save you a lot of money and help you keep a closer eye on SK’s ketones if you buy that big spoon and urine ketone strips. A lot of cats will pee when they get up. If I needed a urine sample to test ketones, I’d put Gracie in the litter box as soon as she got up so I could catch the sample in a large spoon.

Hi Sebastien! Nice to see you here. Hope you had a nice Christmas.

I have a box of 10 blood ketone strips for the Precision meter that are out of date by not quite one month. If you feel you would trust them, I will gladly send them to you.

Whisper always takes 8 cycles. He apparently missed the day in diabetes school when they taught them to clear a bounce in 6 cycles!

I'm sorry I didn't see yesterday's post until now and that you are having such a rough time of it, Sebastien. It is very easy to collapse into periods of self doubt when things aren't going well, especially with bouncy kitties like ours. Just make sure not to lose sight of the forest for the trees -- You have two kitties that you are doing your best for, way more than most pet parents would do, and we know how much you love them.

I hope that the new year brings new successes for you with FD.

Best,
Sandi.

Nice to see you Sandy! Sorry for the highjack of your condo, Sebastien!

That's very nice from all of you to have come here to help, it's not the type of science I'm used to.
When you shoot (using camera), there is many variable to take into consideration to make the
best of what you have. Sometime you can't do anything good because it's how it is, but you know
WHY. Here, you don't know why, all you have is vague data affected by so many things that it's
almost guess work. I do my best with available data.. if I was able to stay awake from 2am until
preshot at 6am for 7 days it would be easier. How am I suppose to know if he's clearing a bounce
or at the bottom of it is difficult. I way prefer photography, if the shot is bad you're the only one
responsible for the result !

Thanks again for your moral help, think I'll hang around a bit more :)

Good evening to all of you !

I tried urine gathering tonight with a plastic bowl, Small Kitty closed the valve.. He's having a hart time
releasing because of UTI or something, I told myself.. he then switched litter box and no more then 2 sec
after I went there is released a full lake of precious liquid. I need to know if there is blood in the urine, it
would explain why he's handling so badly. The same small plastic bowl is now set with a net on top kept there
by a lastic. Hopefully it's going to work..

Sometimes my cats will use an empty kitty litter pan. Might be worth a try.

That's so nice to see you Bobbie, glad to see you, sorry you're still in the FD business. Amanda (@Osha ) had told
me about it but I was to busy with my mind elsewhere. I remember the time when Bubba went OTJ, this was
one of the most joyful moment since a while. Glad he's in good hands taught, results are pretty good.

For the strips I'll send you a PM, I for sure will accept your help.
