Ugly bounce going on here...DH didn't realize I tested her at +3, so he tested her at +3.75. I had given her a little snack after her +3 poke, so I assume that nasty pink is a food spike.

Mario is not doing well today. He's barely eating, is extremely gimpy, and his legs are slipping out from under him a bit. Of course it HAS to be a holiday. I called our vet's office at about 5:00 this morning, and the girl who answered didn't think it was an emergency per se, and anyway the vet they have on call for today is not one of my faves. So as of now, we have an appointment for tomorrow afternoon with "our" vet...that was the earliest we could get him in. of course, if necessary, we will take him to the ER.

I'm not sure if all this is tied together or not. He's very arthritic, and before we started Adequan, his appy (which was never great to begin with) was extra-bad, and once the arthritis started getting better, his appy picked up. His Adequan shot is "technically" due on Friday, but I have done it earlier, as needed, in the past. However, I put it off a bit this time around because he also wasn't feeling well a few days ago and I didn't want to risk a negative reaction in the middle of the holiday. (not that he's ever had a negative reaction before...but one never knows). The girl I spoke with today said we should hold off on the Adequan until after his vetty visit tomorrow, just in case the vet wants to adjust anything. Right now, he's resting comfortably on one of his favorite pillows.

Today also marks the 10 year annivesary of our GA Mr Kitty crossing the bridge. Needless to say, I'm having a horrific sense of Deja Vu right now.

As far as I'm concerned, tomorrow can't come soon enough, and I sure wish we did not have to go to my parents' house this evening - we're going to have ot keep it very short. Any spare vines for Mario would be greatly appreciated...

Morning Amy and maybe this is good that Trixie is bouncing so you can concentrate on Mario. Too bad it's a big bounce though! So sorry to hear about Mario and hope it isn't anything serious. It kind of sounds like it might be tied into the Adequan. If Mario is in pain, there goes the appy; could that be a possibility. Sending tons of vines and prayers for sweet Mario. I feel for you with your GA Mr. Kitty 10 year anniversary and sending hugs. My GA Siamese boy Mikey died five years ago December 19, close to Christmas, too.
Hope you can enjoy tonight with DParents. Keep us posted on Mario.

With Arthritis, does he have a kitty heating pad? Even a hot water bottle might help him feel a little better.

I agree with what Ann posted -- if Mario is in pain, it could easily be effecting his appetite. Do you have a warm spot you can set up for him? Some warm place may help with the arthritis.

Good Morning Amy. I hope Trixie comes down from that bounce nicely, but no diving quickly.
Sending lots of healing vines and prayer for Mario today, that he feels better today, and he eats, even a little.
What a day for you. I'm sorry this is a sad day for you Amy. I too have a anniversary of the loss of Check's sister, tomorrow.
It seems especially hard at this time of year.

I hope dinner with your parents is nice and soothes your heart. :YMHUG:

I'm sorry Mario isn't feeling so great. I have a heating pad for a dog bed (about 12 by 14 inches) that I can drive to your house, if you want. Let me know. I've used it like 3 times and my cats love it.

The heating pad I have is ancient, but I just ran to my parents' to get theirs (they live around the corner from me). I'm going to set him up with it in our bedroom...I'm sure if I set it up in a "public" area, all the other kitties would dive for it first!

I still can't get him to eat any more. I'm also wondering if something is up with his pill pockets. I opened a "new" package the other day, but it was one I've had for a while. Both last night and this morning, he took his BP pill wrapped in a pill pocket, ate a typical small round of food (he likes to nibble, which means he gets lots of room service for DH and I), and then after that, his appy drops off. Odd coincidence, and of course that's the only pack of pill pockets I have so I can't try a new pack....

I hope the heating pad makes him feel at least a little better...

Sending healing vines for Mario so sorry you have to go through this on Christmas. Paws crossed he will do ok today and you can wait til tomorrow for your vetty visit. Sorry about the bounce for Trixie but like Ann said at least you don't have to worry about her! Try to have a good day and enjoy the time with your parents. Hugs!!!

Mega feel better vines for Mario. I suspect it is adequan related, but that stuff is so out of my experience level. Pain is pain and I would tend to agree that if he hurts he won't want to eat. I wonder to on the pill pockets... same thing happened with Mannie, though I think with him it was also Clav related. Mannie and I send mega healing vines for Mario. I hope he likes the heating pad - it should really help.

Sorry for Trixie's bounce... but at least you know why, and won't have to worry about her going to low.

He's settled in. Of course HE had to climb on there by himself. When I put him on it, he walked away. He came back a few seconds later, though. He's definitely a cat who does not take kindly to being told what to do - he has a mind of his own!

Oh Amy, Dont they always do this on a holiday?? Hope Mario comes around Later today-Can you try giving him some people food so he will eat a little?? They get so stubborn sometimes when we are trying to help them!! Moonie is the same..Today I gave her tuna fish juice & some tuna as well--She ate it!! not much ff..
She who always hated tuna confused_cat --I will feed her some kitten FF turkey before I go out today..
She seems to like soft food now..That's ok!
Praying with all my heart that Mario will feel better as the day goes on!!
Thanks for being so supportive of us during this time we have had & for being such a good friend!!

I can't stand that we have to wait another 24 hours before seeing the vet. At this point I don't think it's an emergency, though...he is resting comfortably and not "ill" or anything.

He was a little interested in baby food last night; not so much today. He's never had any seafood of any sort...I'd almost be afraid to try it, just because it could possibly through off his digestive system because he's never had it before. DH and I are vegan, so I don't have anything else in the house - people food-wise - that would interest a kitty...

And sending tons of healing vines for Mario. It's so hard with our old guys and I hope and pray he'll feel better today. That's interesting about the pill pockets. I know others have made many suggestions so I'll just send hugs and prayers.

He just at a teeny bit of FF and looked pretty perky. I really am becoming suspicious that there could be a couple things going on. For sure, his arthritis is bothering him, but I also wonder if the pill pockets are bad, and/or if his BP is dropping too low. I will definitely have them check his BP tomorrow, but it will be much past the prefered "+6" timeslot, since the earliest appointment we could get was in the afternoon.

He moved off the heating pad to another blanket...stubborn kitty, but as long has he's comfy....
 
Mario collapsed after using the litter box (peeing), so we ended up taking him to the ER instead of going to my parents this evening.

Long story short...his BP was running dangerously low. He registered 90-100 - in an ER setting, after NOT having his nighttime BP meds. Very scary for sure. The rest of his BW was virtually perfect, although he very slightly anemic. His heart and lungs sounded good. She was very impressed with how healthy he is for an almost-18 year old cat.

So, she instructed us to stop all BP meds and take him back to our regular vet in a few days for a recheck. We'll also have his thyroid rechecked at that time, as they did not do that test tonight. Aside from the obvious arthritis issues, she thinks most of his problems over the past couple days were related to his BP. She said we should hold off on the Adequan until after we see our regular vet.

They gave him some squids and an appy stimulant. I'm always iffy about that, but I think he needs a little help to get him jump started. At this point, he is still very wobbly...hopefully that will stop in the next day or so.

I'm still very stressed, but feeling somewhat relieved..
 
Oh my gosh!!! His BP!!! I'm so glad you took him and you were so smart to not give him his meds earlier. I'd also be sure your vet rechecks the anemia.....that can spiral downhill fast if they don't address that.

I'm sorry you didn't get to go to your family dinner but I would have done the same thing. I hope he will start eating and feeling stronger as his BP comes up. She didn't give him anything for it? Paws crossed and prayers. Please keep us updated.
 
Thank heavens you took him in. He'll be feeling much better once his BP is restored. That's a lousy feeling when your pressure's low.

Actually...he's the smart one. He flicked the pill out of his mouth, then wouldn't retake it. The vet didn't mention anything about giving him something to bring up his BP....I guess she felt he was in such good shape "clinically" that discontinuing the meds for now would do it. But now I'm nervous...

He's resltess...I guess that's the appy stimulant which, in hindsight, I wish I held off on....

We've got our hands full. Mario is confined to our bedroom, but as you know, Zen and Frankie have separation anxiety/issues with our bedroom door. Since they know Mario is in there, it's a bazillion times worse! Plus, everyone knows something is "off", and they'r reacting to it. I'd like to just be in the bedroom to watch Mario, but then Zen gets upset. When I let Zen in the bedroom, he's all fidgety and I can't just relax with them. Argh!

The ER vet did mention doing a follow up about the anemia, too.

My head is swimming....
 
oh amy - what a day! it's a good thing you took mario in and got some clarity on what's going on with him.

when they stopped making the kitty pill pockets i bought a bunch of dog ones - and i did open a package that seemed bad. it was uber stinky and the pill pockets were kinda slimy. so i put the rest of the packages in the freezer so they wouldn't go bad before they got opened. if your pill pockets seem off, they certainly might be bad.

sending the best wishes for mario tonight - and for the rest of you too. it's hard having a little one not feeling good. mario is so lucky to have you. :YMHUG:
 
Hi Amy, just catching up on condos and so sorry to hear about Mario! You sure were in tune with him and so glad you found what was going on with him. Sending tons of healing vines and prayers, and hope today he is feeling better.
I use pill pockets for Mags's Pepcid. I'll have to check on them, as sometimes she just doesn't want to swallow, but i thought it was actually taking the pill?
Hope you got some rest last night.

Hi Amy - mega good vines fir everyone there. I hope Mario will be feeling bettter soon,. BP stuff scares the living everything out of me. You did well, very attuned to your guys needs. I will be thinking of you guys today.
