Well, Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate!
Gen has been having a grand time exploring my parents' house. As is his norm, there was never any hiding; as soon as he was let out of the carrier he had to roam around, get a sense of the whole space (much bigger than our apartment), explore nooks and crannies and see where he could get up higher (his main dissatisfaction, I think, is that he doesn't have too many options for tall vantage points). There are five active humans walking around and chatting all the time (also very different from my apartment, where both my roommates tend to keep to their rooms most of the time), and he's just fascinated by everything and barely settling in one place for long.
Regarding the gabapentin: I failed at every attempt to give it to him. I tried mixing the powdered stuff in a small portion of his wet food along with a Churu, I tried giving him the tablets in pill pockets, and finally, desperate, I tried giving him the liquid stuff with an oral syringe. I don't know how he managed to avoid the effects of the last one, but he was wide awake for the ride. Pretty well-behaved, though - lots of complaining at first, and some intermittent meowing for the whole drive, but I was pleasantly surprised. I kept his carrier covered with a blanket and the door open, and a couple of times he emerged (held tightly on a leash) to stare in apparent horror at the weird surroundings.
Anyway, all seems to be well. He continues to stubbornly pogo up and down and always wind up in the HI numbers. When we get home this weekend, I'll probably try out a more controlled feeding regimen to see if that makes a difference, but for now I'm just glad he seems to be feeling good!
He has shown a surprising interest in nibbling on my mom's plants (he's never been into that before; our current apartment doesn't have any, but the people we lived with for most of his life had all kinds of plants, and with the sole exception of one spider plant, he never showed any interest in them). I'm wondering if it's a digestive thing, since he's still having some bowel challenges? Thinking of picking up some pet grass for him tomorrow.
