Afternoon everyone...
I figured some of you are wondering.

Shadow did great with just my DD. She slept with her. Dd says she ate her foods....and even started playing randomly.
We are guessing her tiny dose of Bupe every night is making a difference.
May have to try giving her the morning dose too.
This morning she was rolling a tennis ball ( belongs to dogs) on the floor and attacking it.
Still have our appointment for the ultrasound on Dec 26.

Now for the ugly.
We got down to DGM house last Saturday. My DGM had bought a new mattress/bed (three quarter size) for my mother that had been just recently
set up for my DM but my DM hadn't even gotten to sleep in it yet since she's been in the hospital.
So we sent my DGM to sleep in it and we would sleep in DGM's bed since it was queen size.

Oy Vey. My DH went to sleep and got 2 hours or more before I climbed in.
My DGM had complained about itching in the night, she thought she had fleas.
About 40 minutes after I got in bed, I felt like something was crawling on me.... and I smelled cherry ... like cough syrup.
My DH said he was itchy too.... and it clicked....
I jumped up, turned on light, and you got it..... bedbugs. :o  :o
one of the symptoms from them can be psychological.... and it sure as hell is.... I call it the heebie jeebies. You feel so violated.
So my DH dragged the mattress/box springs and bedding outside...
and we just had to stay up the entire night so we started working.
We were having a estate sale on sunday morning so we started pulling things we knew weren't going with us.
We also ran to the 24 hour walmart and found a Raid bed bug and flea killer. We bought several cans and sprayed and sprayed. They die instantly
but the other way is heat. You wash and dry everything that you can. Hot dryer.
We were determined to nip that one in the bud. So added work.
One of the things I also find online is that you can have delayed response to the bites.... which I think is what I'm having today. I sure hope so. nailbite_smile
I've been running so hard for days that I haven't had time to sit down myself. I am so allergic to so many bug bites that I am hoping /praying
that the red welts that I just found this morning are a delayed reaction.
IF not, we didn't win the battle. But since I'm the only one with little red bumps it makes sense.
My other thought was they were also in the car ( I drove DGM's car home)
But my DM and DGM have no spots either and they rode with me.
So... please pray that it's just me and a delayed reaction. I took some Benadryl and it's gotten better already.
That's the last thing we would want or need to deal with..... it's already been a nightmare getting thru this last week.

My DM did fine on the ride home..... no severe reactions to the changing altitude.
Had a ridiculous time getting oxygen for the trip. They sure won't make it easy....Spent the whole week trying to get it lined up.
We dropped her off at the nursing home first thing.... and we are trying to run back and forth as much as we can to get things to her
and spend time with her. They are such miserable places. I will see if they would like a dog visitor... our dog Gypsy loves everyone and could
probably handle it and enjoy the attention.

My DGM has been lost in my house. But that will get better ... maybe... confused_cat Lots of new adjustments and I see her dementia issues more and more. I need a sitter now because I can't even leave her alone. She loses all reality the moment she is alone.
I wasn't expecting that at all.

I have probably bitten off more than I can chew but One Day at a Time.
I won't bore you with all the details.... but I definitely felt like I was in hell this past week.
And now face the fallout as they both realize the situation and see it clearer in small bits.

Prayers for all the recent losses and troubles as I find them in my little glimpses of condos.

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

I'm so grateful you stopped into Champ's condo to wish him well. Especially after reading about your week!! Geez Louise!!! I sure hope things calm down for you and you're able to relax, at least so you can have a good Christmas. Good luck with everything and thank you so much for your well wishes!!

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

Count me as one of those wondering how it was going. OMG on the bed bugs! Yuck - I know people who've had to go through that. Tenacious little beasts.

I hope things become easier for DGM as she gets used to your place. :YMHUG: And that the workload becomes more manageable for you. You are doing a great thing for your family.

Good news on Shadow - your DD did great.

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

Hi Rhiannon, I was wondering how things were going with you! Sorry about the bed bugs...my sister had to go through that once, her entire dorm had them and had to be fumigated and bedding washed over and over, blech. I hope your DM and DGM manage to settle in comfortably, it has to be tough on all of you. Hugs! :YMHUG: . I'm glad that Shadow is playing and doing well, give her scritches from me :-D :-D

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

What a week! I hope it all settles down and the bed bugs are conquered! At least Shadow is doing well and no extra worries there. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

Sending prayers and hugs to you. I hope things settle down for everyone as they adjust to the new situation. I hope the bed bugs are gone and you get over the reaction quickly.

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

I was also wondering how you were doing....and we are sending endless prayers that everything settles down and gets better for you. How wonderful that Shadow is playing - I bet the bupe is really helping take the edge of her discomfort. Remember her chasing that tennis ball when times feel tough!

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

Ugh on the bed bugs! I hope they are gone soon. I hope DM and DGM get settled in. I am impressed that Shadow is chasing a tennis ball. She's tough! :-D

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

reading up on copd issues and bed bugs and oxygen....

sounds like my DM probably doesn't have a long time.... she's morbidly obese.... can barely stand to transfer herself from chair to bed ...
and is needing oxygen all the time now.

and my bumps are a common delayed reaction to bites ( especially me with my severe allergies)
common for it to take 9 days for a delayed reaction... and then they become welts... itchy sores if you aren't careful and claw at them.
it's been 7 days.... so taking Benadryl, Benadryl creams, and cortisone creams... with ibuprofen.
But it makes us feel better that we didn't bring them home....
we've been scared all day and started washing everything.... dumped it all on front porch anyway.
I need a bigger house for all this stuff.....

no one else has signs of it....
just me.... and you all remember how I reacted to that non-poisonous spider bite.

Re: 12/22 Shadow, Rhiannon +DM/DGM update

(((((Rhiannon))))), I'm sending you vines for everything!! I can't believe your week. You are Superwoman to be able to cope with both your DM and your DGM. And then add bedbugs into the mix! ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile I hope that all will begin to calm down soon and that the New Year will bring you some much needed relaxation and good health, and a playful, healthy Shadow.

Try WitchHazel on the allergic reaction to the bb bites.

Hugs and scritches (for Shadow, not for you!!),

Ella & Rusty

Oh Rhiannon! I am so sorry for all this and especially right before the holidays. I hope your bites heal quickly.

Sending your DM and DGM healing vines. Sending you many prayers. I hope your DGM will do better as she settles in and I hope your mom can improve there. At least it is a blessing you can be with them both.

Rhiannon,
Sending prayers that things will settle down for you soon.
Please don't forget to take care of yourself too. :YMHUG:

Thank you everyone....
The crap fest just gets deeper.
My DGM is in the hospital tonite. I would call it a combination dehydration~high altitude, and over medication.
She went to bed last night around 4.... stayed there until 6 am this morning, popped out and asked if she could come out of her room yet in a snarky voice.
And I told her yes, of course.... it's your home... you can come out whenever you want.

I made her coffee and she dug her medicine out of the bottles and took it.
Then she sat down with me on the couch, drank some coffee and after 30 minutes or so... fell asleep. Her coffee cup tilted. ( she's done that for years)
I ran to get a towel and came back and she was on the floor.
I tried to get her back up and sat her in a recliner. She fell asleep again. And did that for hours. I woke her up several times trying to get her to drink water
or eat.
We decided she must have taken her lorazapam ( which she should only take at night).
So we waited with her for it to wear off but as I was about to go somewhere.... I made her some toast which she ate half of it but then she dropped the
toast and continued the hand motions of eating it ( but nothing there)
That got our attention. I called my DM and had her talk with her but mamaw wasn't making sense.
That's when we put mamaw in the car and took her to the er.
They hooked her up for fluids and have been running tests....and watching and waiting for her to wake up fully.
We left her at 7pm, she was eating but she was still lost and confused.

She needs prayers. She might also have a cracked rib.

Shadow hasn't played in my view today but she has asked for food often. 2 1/2 more days til her appt....
I sure hope I get to take her to it..... @-) nailbite_smile

Rhiannon, you sure have had a rough week, and having DGM have to go to the hospital sure wasn't anything any of you needed :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Sounds like it's where she needs to be though....You might want to get her one of those pill schedule boxes that have either a days worth or weeks worth of little "compartments" for up to 4 times a day, and you take over doling out the medications. Before DM went into the nursing home, I'd been going to her house once/week to fill up her pill box and then calling her to remind her to take them. That was one of the big reasons we made the decision to have her stay in Assisted Living (before she had the heart problems and ended up back in the nursing home)...At least then they make sure she's taking her meds when she's supposed to and it's totally out of her hands.

Since she's staying with you, you might even take the pill box and lock both it and the rest of her pills up. It would mean someone else would be responsible for getting them to her on time, but at least then you'd know she was getting the correct medications at the right time...and in the right doses.

My prayers are with you and your family. This is a hard time of year for our aging parents/grandparents dealing with the holidays and the changes that come with aging.
