Happy Friday everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes and good thoughts. Tilda’s kidney numbers “jumped” sadly. I haven’t received my copy of the bloodwork yet but we’re headed in for a follow up BP reading today. Good news is her BG and poops have been amazing and consistent on the Rayne rabbit cups… but I’m not sure it’s the best for her kidneys. One step at a time <3

The OTJ is amazing, so happy for the BG.

Hopefully you can slow the CKD progress. Anything new you are thinking to help with that?

Never heard of the Rayne Rabbit Cups, I might try it for one of my cats as a novel protein test with her recent allergies. I checked their "detailed diet" page > https://indd.adobe.com/view/46a75df8-0bd3-4d69-af6c-0bb63e3a4787 It's too bad they don't tell you how much phosphorus is in it. They do claim it has an "excellent source of phosphorus" which is slightly worrisome. Have you tried writing them? Maybe ask if it's suitable for CKD? or ask how much phos is actually in it?

Interesting they sell a Diabetes Mellitus Diet wet food, the kangaroo, but the carbs are 16.7%. hmmmm....

If you don't mind, please share the kidney numbers and how much they jumped. I'm always worried about Kona and the inevitable CKD...

I'm soooo happy for you guys with the OTJ trial! Such a blessing!!! :D:D:D:D

There's three pages to the diet details page, phosphorus is 1.7% DMB :( She was on the kangaroo for years, you can see the moment I switched to all rabbit very clearly on our SS! CKD does feel inevitable but I was hoping controlling the diabetes would help her kidneys...time will tell I guess. I'll post the tests!

And thank you!

Ohhh, you're right, I see the other pages now. Yeah, that phos looks like it's on the higher end? For the rabbit food, it's probably because they cook it down with the small bones in it? I'm starting to see more and more foods in the market noting the removal of bones for this reason.

When you do bloodwork, are you testing for phos levels? Curious what those are... I'm in no way an expert at all!

FWIW, I'm a huge fan of Weruva foods, I use their TruLuxe foods because they have some good options that Kona never gets tired of and they are mostly all very low carbs if any carbs at all. I split half a can of TruLuxe and then half a can of their Wx Low Phos food line. Kona loves them and makes me feel better I'm watching the phos levels which may contribute to CKD progression. I shared this with my vet and she thought it was a good idea.

Note: "The recommended phosphorus range on a dry matter basis for cats with CKD is 0.3-0.6%."

Good luck!!!

I wish they'd make one that could work for Tilda's allergies. I am hoping to find a new food :bookworm:

Woooooo day 11!!! Sending love for the kidney levels, hoping they are early lows and you can find the right diet modification. :bighug:
Thank you! Sadly we're getting worse. Added a few numbers to her Labs tab. I still suspect her BP is spiking but we haven't caught it.

Hi Ali, congratulations on Day 11. Who hoo!! :cat::cat:
I’m sure getting FD under control can only help her kidneys! Great job. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Congrats to you both. OTJ trail is looking beautiful. Sorry about the recent increase in numbers. I'm hopeful you can figure it out.

My message from the EZ complete meal addition talked specifically about the difference in farmed rabbit nowadays compared to wild or farmed even 20 years ago. She said it isn't a lean meat anymore, as most promote because of how it is farmed. Thought I would share that with you in case that is the issue with the rabbit meat you are currently using.
