Cosmo had his ultrasound this morning. We were asked to fast for 8 hrs pre procedure, but we gave him 1/2 his regular meal at AMPS and full dose after speaking with the vet in the am. We gave 1ml of gabapentin a few hrs before his procedure. He was a bit groggy from it, but not bad.

The vet said that she is going to have the full report analysis tomorrow, but that from what she saw, no cysts or tumours were seen (yay!), his pancreas looked pretty good and some senior organs, but again, she said the full report will be in tomorrow. She doesn’t seem convinced that he has pancreatitis, so no antibiotics or meds yet.

I’m not sure what else could return a high Spec fPL test? Has anyone seen this before? Any other conditions that might cause that?

Cosmo came home in the early afternoon and is still a bit sleepy, good appetite and even a blue +6 :cool: :cool::cool:

So...good news so far!
 
This is the post I've been waiting for all day:bighug:. So glad Cosmo is home and yay for good news! I'm very curious about the spec fPL result vs his pancreas looking pretty good. FWIW, Butters' spec fPL was a 9 and her u/s showed only a mild inflammation of the pancreas.

Wow, that's quite the drop to +6. Low from the vet visit, maybe?

It was quite a drop, but he is back to the 400’s :eek:
 
It didn’t seem like pancreatitis to me either. The test is far from perfect. Ve read diabetes and CKD both can elevate the SpecFpl. I hope it is a fluke. Like your vet! No rush to try antibiotic without evidence it’s needed. :) My vet didn’t have me fast Max for his ultrasounds either.

We like her too! Back when Elie was first diagnosed, she was amazing and so helpful.

I was just reading that IBD, intestinal issues, pancreatic cancer, hepatitis can be other causes of elevated levels. Given his intestinal issues, maybe could be that?
 
IBD is definitely a possibility. It’s good there wasn’t any intestinal thickening. I think you would see that or nodules if cancer. I seriously doubt he has hepatitis. His liver values are normal. What does your vet think?

She has a guarded opinion and wants to see the full report first, which is ok with us. I think she was worried she might see a mass on his pancreas given his lack of consistent response to insulin treatment. She did say she didn’t see anything like that when she looked.

I need to remember that we brought him for blood work as a precaution ahead of the holidays to see if anything could have caused his BG to be so high and stubborn (except for his fun dropsies :eek:) after all this time. If it were high and flat, we could reasonably keep increasing his dose until they come down, but every week or so, he drops and sometimes earns reductions) She does think it’s odd, and wants to help us to see if there is a medical reason for it that we can do something about.

Other than groggy from the gabapentin, Cosmo is doing good!!! I sense cuddling tonight!
