Nothing exciting to report here...and, believe me, I am thankful for that.

Hubby is on "vacation" today, so I asked him, in a barely awake state, to do the +2 pokey. As result, I WAY overslept, and should be getting ready for work at this very second. Sooo, that's what I gotta go do now. Condos-hoppin' is on the docket for this evening. I hope everyone has a great day!

Re: 12/21 Trixie AMPS 113 +2 74 +4 78 - Vet Vent

I'm so mad that I can't see straight right now, and I know you guys will get it.

A couple weeks ago, my civvie, Mario had an odd high WBC count in his senior BW. When I spoke with the vet, we decided to run a CBC after he finished a course of clindamyacin for his dental issues, and go from there. I made the tech appointment for the CBC for this morning; since I'm at work, my husband took Mario in.

Well, instead of drawing for a CBC, they drew blood for a chem screen, T4, and checked his BP. WTF??? We just had those tests done 2 weeks ago, and I specifically scheduled a CBC. He does need his thyroid re-checked, but it's only been a couple weeks since we adjusted his meds; the vet said specifically that we would recheck his T4 in 3-4 weeks (I was going for 4), not 2 And THAT is when they were supposed to check his BP - once he settled into his thyroid med adjustment. His kindeys are holding steady in the normal range, there is no need to recheck their values every 2 weeks. And, the blood has gone out...so now - just a few days before Christmas - we have to take this poor cat who is TERRIFIED of the vet back for another blood draw. Unfortunately, hubby isn't as familiar with this stuff, and what needs to be done, as I am. I knew as soon as he told me the total for the bill that it was wrong. So I guess no matter what, I'm always going to have to be present for vet stuff...one more thing on my plate. Yay.

So far, I've only spoken to a tech (of course, the one and only vet tech that I hate); I have demanded that an actual vet call me. The supposedly won't charge for the CBC, but now we have to haul Mario back for that blood draw. I'm fuming, to put it incredibly mildly (it's a good thing this is a "family" site!!)

I wish I could say I feel better, but I'm still stressed knowing we have to take Mario back yet again, because of their poor communication....grrr....

I know exactly what you mean. The level of communication sometimes is awful.

Have you tried anything like Rescue Remedy with Mario?

Re: 12/21 Trixie AMPS 113 +2 74 +4 78 - Vet Vent

I do need to look into Rescue Remedy for him. Would that throw off any of his values? Particularly his BP?

Re: 12/21 Trixie AMPS 113 +2 74 +4 78 - Vet Vent

grr_red I'm with you on the lack of communication! Maybe some Rescue Remedy for you too, Amy? Or just a well placed kick to the shins when you see that tech! One or the other will surely make you feel better.

THAT STINKS! I'd color her teeth black if I had a picture....teeheehee...the vet's too!

Oh Lyresa, you are so bad!   Amy, I'm sorry about the vet mixup. I would be furious too. Poor Mario, he'll get through it ok. Someone suggested rescue remedy for Zener too but we haven't tried it. Anne and I both use it regularly.

I spoke to the actual vet a little while ago. Long story short, she was very apologetic for the confusion and they are crediting us for everything except the BP check today. Apparently, they implemented a new computer system this week, and no one can figure out the notifcations, so they went off his chart and assumed he was in for the chem screen, T4, and BP check, even though I only scheduled him for a CBC. She said it was OK to do his CBC and T4 at the same time - first week in Jan, so we DON'T have to take the poor kitsel back this week, and it didn't make sense to do his chem screen for several weeks after that because if his liver values are out of whack because of the thyroid, it will take a while for them to come back down. They're not going to charge us for the CBC. What a stressful mess this all was.

Moderately calmer now, after being dizzy-angry for a good portion of the day....

They really ARE a good practice overall, and very thorough. I just wish they would have asked my husband why Mario was there, rather than guessing he was there for all those other tests since they were having problems with the new computer system. I was just massively stressed while I was in limbo over the whole thing. Just another learning experience here!

i prescribe a good book and a glass of wine! not for mario, for you and the hubby. i hate how i feel when i've gotten all worked up and stayed that way.

yay for them taking responsibility for the screw-up and not charging you for their mistake. these things happen.

hope you can relax this even and snuggle with the furballs, amy! :YMHUG:

Amy,
now i get what you mean...i'd be furious too....

the RR works well with Rocket...too well in fact that i think i gave him too much when he went to see Santa last weekend as he was giving him Cattitude...Santa was terrified getting the pictures taken....as you know Rocket has CRF and the RR helps him keep calm and the renal values don't get affected at all...only his cattitude!

i have been giving him RR since Jul2008 whenever he goes to the vet....with his seizures...it's a must!

i squirt a couple of drops in his gums every 15 mins....i start him 15 mins before we head out the door....the epi-feline group recommended the RR back then and i do the same with Comet after he's had surgery.....it is bitter (i know) but for humans they say a few drops in tea or coffee or just water and it's supposed to help you sleep....now that part i can't tell you works...with my lack of sleep i have tried it a few times and has not helped :( but probably cause i really don't want to sleep thru one of Rocket's meds.....

hang in there....Mario will be fine....

Amy, I feel your rage! grr_red angry(2)_cat cat(2)_steam

I'm sorry they couldn't change the order on the blood that was drawn. No way they could call 1st thing in the morning and add the analysis? (Or did they not send it out?)

For Kitty's dental this week, our vet suggested we type up a list of instructions to be stapled to the admission form. On one hand, I hate that this is necessary. On the other hand -- obviously, it is. It seems that we must constantly be taking responsibility for making sure the right thing is done. I know the same is true with human doctors (doctors for humans! ). This creates the huge stress of over-control for me, but the alternative is equally unacceptable.

I hope Rescue Remedy helps Trixie. And I hope you find a remedy for your own frazzled nerves! drinking24
