Re: 12/21 Ozy AMPS-188 first day of Levemir

Congratulations on the No Acromegaly!!!!!!!
Good luck with the Levemir. I'm sure you've been told to expect the onset and nadir are later with Levemir than with Lantus.

Re: 12/21 Ozy AMPS-188 first day of Levemir

Good luck on Levemir! The onset and nadir are usually later than Lantus. I'm afraid it's an ECID thing again. Libby's KK had a Levemir cycle that looked a lot like a Lantus cycle, but most of the other kitties here are later, the amount varies. Neko's nadir is often at PS, which means I have to be comfortable shooting low. But I've seen her nadir anywhere from +5 to about +15 with +9 a common time. That's about 2 hours later than what she did on Lantus. But with her acromegaly (and possible still some IAA effects), she's never been one to settle on a particular time for a nadir or onset.

One thing Marje suggested to me is to get a +2 or a +3. That will tell me what kind of cycle it's going to be. If it's zooming up, it's likely (but not 100% sure) to be a quieter cycle and the nadir will be later. If the +2/3 is about the same or not much up, then nadir is earlier and a more active cycle. If you then get a test just after onset (once you figure out when that is, for us it's around +4.5), it'll help you determine whether it's OK to sleep. But that's what works for us. I'm afraid that is the worst part of the insulin switch, figuring out those patterns again. I got spot checks the first night every 3 hours after the switch, but until it's an all Levemir shed, patterns might be harder to see.

The one advantage of Levemir, due to that later onset, as long as the PS isn't too low, you can get a good nap in after the shot. :-D

Thanks for the encouragement Dyana, Josie, Carla, and Wendy. And Wendy, thanks for the information.

I plan to keep a close eye on him tonight.... every two hours, just like today.

As Wendy said, Ozy will onset when Ozy's body wants to :-D There are some cats that onset at +4 like clockwork and then nadir at +8 or +9. Gracie ...and Neko....will sometimes nadir from the first shot after the second shot. I had too many times where she dropped on me at +2 which is unusual for a lev cat so we test at +2.

many lev users will test at AMPS and not again until +4 to catch the onset. You will just have to give him some time to settle in before you will know his patterns.
