Can we be any more F L A T!?!

I replaced Temptations by Pure Bites (freeze dry chicken) a week ago and DM Dry by EVO Dry 4 days ago and Frip’s BGs have gone FLAT for the past couple of days!!! cat_pet_icon

I was wondering if the Lantus had gone flat too !! (51 days outside the fridge because my pen doesn’t work when I keep it in the fridge – but the Pharmacist told me 3 months outside is OK for a cat but not for a Bean, we are still far from 3 months now. I have about 90 U left… I hate to trough it away especially since the results are still good (but flat!!!). I don’t have any cartridge left so I need to buy 5 more cartridges (whish I could buy 1 at a time now).

I’m not sure if it’s the Lantus, the strips, the meter (Freestyle Lite), or just removing the Dry HC.
What are the criteria to try OTJ? I know we are still a little high but I don’t think he’ll go under 3.0 (52) at this point.

Would it be OK to stop Lantus for a couple of days (or until BG is bad) to see if it changes anything?
Frip is 23 lbs and I’m giving him a “fat drop” – plunger is aligned to the top of the 0U line.

I’m thinking if his BG starts going higher, I just go back to the “fat drop”… but I don’t want to lose regulation… So what you think?

Re: 12/21 Frip +10 101, AMPS 101 Flat Flat - Question

I thought flat was good with lantus when it's this low   I sure don't know but I'll give you a bump and send (((Frip)))....he did get a nice green number at nadir, eh? Good luck if you start OTJ trial!!

flat is a good thing!
frip's numbers are just a bit higher than we'd like to see, but i'd hate to see you have to go out and buy more insulin at this point. i'd go ahead and start a trial. let's see what frip can do!

Here's what you do (courtesy of libby):

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!

ps - there's a good chance frip's numbers will come down even further if you're able to eliminate the dry evo at night. maybe substitute with pure bites?
GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks Jill, I'll give it a try...

I would have preferred to wait until we have lower numbers to try it out. But I agree I prefer to see how he is doing without the Lantus before I go buy 5 more cartridges at this point.

I’m very realistic about it… so if it’s not this time it will be later… ;-)

We are close and that is already 100 times better than I ever hoped for in June when we started on Lantus… :-D

Thanks everyone for the encouragement !!! dancing_cat
