AMPS 540 WTF? I certainly wasn't expecting this?!! He has never been this high before, I am practically in a panic/tears! Why is this happening? DH tested him last night @ +4.5 and he hit blue 175. I am beside myself right now.

Scrabble was agitated again with his ears & I had a hard time getting blood. Stabbed myself with the lancet too. Poor guy.
Well this is going to ruin any sleep that I was going to get since I am going to be worried about him. I hope he comes down a lot today. Paws crossed.

OUCH! but try not to worry too much Michelle it's a horrible one but it is just one number. Hoping the next test is looking much prettier to give you some peace of mind.

I am wondering if Scrabble didn't eat a cookie crumb or two off of the floor. I noticed a chocolate crumb on the floor, my DH must have ate a cookie and dropped a crumb or two since I found one on the floor. Not sure if that is what happened just trying to figure out why he is so high, I am freaking out. I can tell he doesn't feel right too, doesn't seem himself.

Hi Michelle, ouchie with the 540! I guess you probably tested twice? I'm not sure which meter you're using, but I've noticed with my Relion Confirm if I get too large a splatter on the strip (and it goes over the sides), I get a wonky number. It also happened when I was using the AlphaTrak, and a Vet from Abbott mentioned this can happen on the ATrak, and I see it happen occasionally on my meters. Just some thoughts. Of course, a cookie would also spike Scrabble. :-D I'd test again just to make sure.

Hi Michelle - so sorry for that number. never fun! I suspect that being that high makes him feel a little crappy - Mannie did too when he did this to me last week. Pets for your guy, and try not to worry - it will come down.

HI everyone, still here, we use the relion confirm and the first test said hi and the second test came up 540. Had a hard time doing either test since his ears were not bleeding well and he was agitated. I am praying he starts coming down soon. Gonna try to catch a little sleep and test again. Hi Michelle. Sorry to see such a high number for Scrabble. I hope he comes down nicely for you today. I won't tell you not to worry about one number because I know it is easier said than done. I hope you can get some rest, and then wake up to a better number.

Sometimes they just throw high numbers for no reason. They are cats, after all! But if the high numbers persist, or if you are just not comfortable with the present situation, perhaps a trip to the vet is in order simply to rule out any infection. In any event, try to get some sleep today and see where he is the next time you test. If he ate chocolate, that could result in a bg spike and in his not feeling well. I have heard that chocolate is not good for cats.

Hang in there. Get some sleep!

Well, my first reaction was, "Contraband!"

I do suspect that Scrabble bounced. The drop from PMPS to your +4.5 was almost 200 points. That's an impressive drop and Scrabble's system may have overreacted. In this case, the good news is that whatever goes up, comes down.

I'm sorry for the 540 this morning. Hopefully Scrabble will come down for you today. I know it is hard not to worry, but it is just one number. If he stays high, then I would worry. I've noticed Furball doesn't feel as well when she jumps up to the higher numbers too. That is good that they don't feel well at the higher numbers. It means they are getting used to the lower, better numbers.

Dont worry Michelle. We all know how bad you are feeling about that red but Scrabble will come down.
Did you warm up Scrabble's ear before poking? Give him a light massage before the poking will relax him a bit. You are using the lancet? Is the needle too thin? I do it free handed. I think it's easier esp if I need to poke again at the same spot for more blood.
Hang in there, it's ok to feel stressed & panicked.

hi everyone thanks for the kind words, Scrabble woke me up to test him and he is 246 thank goodness! He was starving also so just gave him some kitty crack. So weird when I poked him the blood came up so quick like normal. Seems like we were in the twilight zone a few hours ago. I free hand with a lancet also and do warm his ears with a rice sock. Hopefully he will continue to come down today and not bounce back up again, that scared the crap out of me.

+6 200 whew! I am really starting to think he ate some chocolate cookie crumbs this morning. Poor baby. Literally gave mama a heartattack. DH bruised Scrabble's ear again last night, darn. I showed him again how I do it. It sucks because I don't want to discourage him from testing. He feels bad and hates testing anyway but with my work schedule it makes things so much easier so hopefully he can figure it out.
Anyway just so glad he is down from the horrendous morning I had.

Hi Michelle, so glad to see the nice slide down for Scrabble. That 200 is almost a blue! :-D I know how worried you were, so good job Scrabble. I bet it was the cookie crumbs! No more cookies for you Scrabble.

Michelle, I bet the world looks better after Scrabble showed you the 200!. Give that little stinker an extra scritch from me and tell him to knock it off with the 500s.
Yeah on DH testing! With a little practice he won't bruise that precious ear. Both DH and i are just getting the hang of testing alone and we've been doing it for.. omg.. seems like forever.

PMPS 494 OH MY HOW DEPRESSING! Hope this is just a weird cycle or something. I am so bummed, picked up a shift tonight so DH is in charge. Soo tired hardly got any sleep today. Have a good night everyone!

The cycles will flatten out. Scrabble dropped 340 points from AMPS to +6. Rather than become so upset, remember that either a drop into low numbers or a relatively fast, large drop will also trigger a bounce. The other factor to keep in mind is that Lantus is not a "potent" insulin. Unlike the shorter acting types of insulin that slam numbers down, what Lantus lacks in potency, it makes up for with both duration and gentleness. It's easier for Lantus to bring numbers into a flatter curve when you start at a lower point -- the insulin has something to "grab" on to. Things will settle down.

Thanks Sienne the thing that gets me is the last time we were on insulin we didn't get such huge bounces so it is crazy to me. I just worry about Scrabble's well being you know? I know I need to have patience but it is hard. My solace is knowing I am doing all I can for him

I just want to let you know I care, and am hoping Scrabble comes down to better numbers tomorrow. :smile:
Lots of us know what it feels like to get those awful high numbers.

+5 230 dh just reported, glad he is down hope no bounce in the morning! @ work right now the bright spot is I won $650 in a football pool today! Thanks for all your kind words!
