After yesterdays' phenomenally beautiful numbers, we're back in the pinks again.

I don't like to go off one day's weight alone, but take an average across a week to compensate for any natural weight fluctuations, however, he weighed in at 7.8 pounds yesterday!!! This "growth spurt" of his seems never-ending! It definitely keeps me on my toes. :-D I'm hoping this is just a bounce or him growing, but it could also be proof that the Fancy Feast Classic Chicken Feast is not a good choice of food for him.

Or, maybe it could even be caused because I managed to get a Fur shot in this morning instead of a Mikey shot without realizing it? Is there any way to tell with his numbers if/when this happens?
And my roommate also agreed to let me begin training him so he can take care of Mikey while my brother and I are both gone in a couple of weeks. party_cat

Not to be a pain in the neck, but it would be a lot easier to provide feedback if Mikey's SS was up to date.

Given Mikey's numbers from yesterday, what you're seeing is a bounce. Mikey's not used to spending lots of time in normal numbers. As a result, those blues and greens triggered a release of a stored form of glucose (glucagon) from the pancreas along with counterregulatory hormones which caused his numbers to spike.

thats good that you have a caregiver for when you are away Make sure you show him where the syrup is kept and give him the # of your vet. The oddest things happen as soon as you leave! (but only if you dont prepare for them!) Will he be posting on here? Might be a good idea if he needs help!

Probably he is still bouncing, he seems to do blue green then bounce for a couple of days. What makes you think the FF flavour isnt good for him?

He keeps these numbers up I can see a dose increase in his future....

Didn't realize it depends on the order of tabs for what's automatically displayed in googledocs. Please try again and see if December's tab is actively displayed this time.

I've got a Hypo Battle Box already set up with pages of info, corn syrup, syringes, backup glucometer and test strips, vet info, emergency vet info, and even a spare credit card. Didn't even think of asking my roommate to post; I'll see if he's up for it.

I'm feeding Mikey a mono-diet today (and perhaps the next two or three days) of just FF Chicken to see how it affects his numbers (if at all) in comparison with other foods/flavors to narrow down what specifically in the food affects him most severely (calories, carbs, fat/protein ratio?). Yesterday, it was solely NV Chicken, but I only had 3 cans in stock so I'll have to return to that experiment at a later date when I remember to buy more.

If I may offer a suggestion....

We look for patterns on a spreadsheet. Having only a month at a time makes it harder to see trends. You may want to check in with someone like Marje or Dyana who both look at lots of SSs, but for me, it's easier to see patterns if there's lots of data vs. having to switch between pages and I have to piece things together. It's one of the reasons I have roughly 2 years of Gabby's data on a tab. I know there was a discussion of this on a different board and I have to agree with Jill. IMHO, splitting things up into small chunks makes it much harder for those of us that open pretty much everyone's SS.

Some people feed a restricted diet others opt for more diversity. I feed Wellness (turkey or chicken only). In part, my guys aren't routinely thrilled with Merrick Before the Grain or EVO. When there was a recall, feeding only one brand was a headache.

Already ahead of you on that one. Since I learned that my comments are only visible to me a couple of days ago, I've been playing around visually with the spreadsheet to find a way to add the extra information I've been collecting without affecting its ability to quickly represent data. I haven't been satisfied with the results and was working on making a Master sheet with supplemental tabs specifically for monthly data tracking of his food and weight. I've just made the Master sheet the primary tab in googledocs so you should be able to see everything there now as default/before. :-D

Re: 12/2 Michelangelo AMPS 328, +6/314

Perfect! You may want to look at other people's SSs for other methods of incorporating the information you want to track. Some people have added columns for weight and food. There's no one right way -- whatever works for you.

Just to reiterate, Mikey is bouncing. It's nothing to worry about. As his body gets reacclimated to being in normal numbers, the bounciness should settle down.

Re: 12/2 Michelangelo AMPS 328, +6/314

This is the first time I've ever used googledocs so there are some quirks with it I'm still figuring out. One of the reasons I created tabs in the first place is because I've seen a few examples where everything is put on the same sheet. It works if it's just a tiny bit of data, but with the amount I'm tracking, it makes the spreadsheet seem overly cluttered.

Yeah, I figured it was another bounce. It's a perfectly lovely rainy day, so I haven't wanted to get out from under the blankets to go get his test equipment, not to mention he's been sleeping for the last couple of hours on my feet and I don't want to disturb him either. Take your pick on which is my top priority: not disturbing his sleep or not disturbing my warmth; either way, I'm probably not going to worry about another test till his PMPS.

We're back in the blues again! This morning's bounce seems to have ended. I'm working from home tomorrow so I'll be able to see if we get another bounce tomorrow. How long does bouncing last? His bounces seem to have been going on since the very beginning. When will his pancreas ever be used to "normal" numbers?
