Good morning LL! Snow was a bust last night. That 5" didn't happen. So no shoveling this morning. I guess I'll have to run. Zener is doing OK. We didn't give the Clavamox last night after our vet said it was ok to stop (email on Sunday, how nice is that?). Not much appetite this morning though. He is sleeping in his "yurt" (a small table with a towel over it, he likes enclosed spaces). We're hoping he will perk up as the ABs clear out. We might take him in for a quick check with the vetty to make sure all is good with his teeth. Thinking of ailing kitties and beans and especially Sonia and Tom.

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282 A Trak

Zener is headed in the right direction! It is probably a good idea to get him checked again this week, so you don't have leftover questions to haunt the holidays. A vet who emails answers on Sunday? Wow!

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282 A Trak

well bummer on the snow bust! what is up with that! no snow tunnels for Zener.... bummer!

wow on an email for the vet on a sunday! impressed! I hope Zener feels better now that the AB's are done. Good luck with the vetty appt should you decide to go. perhaps a followup visit would be good. :-D

Have a great day guys!

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282 A Trak

Come on down Zener! Blue is nice today. Poor guy. I bet he gets better fast now that the Clavamox is done.

Bummer on the no snow thing. I know you were looking forward to it plus shoveling is excellent exercise.

Have a great day!!

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282 A Trak

I hope Zener feels better today. Does he still have a sore mouth? We are sending much needed feel better vines for lil Z today.

I'm jealous of your snow, it's been above freezing so often here that we have no snow. I can't have Christmas with no snow :o

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282;+2.5 298 A Trak

We just got a vet visit set for 4 pm today to check his mouth.

@Linda - we agree, better to get him in now than worry over the holidays when it would be hard to get him in to see anyone! :?

@Michelle - he is just feeling sort of punk, so we have a vet recheck today.

@Melissa - we are passing along your message to Zener that blue would be nice. Our sky is very blue this morning!

@Tracy - we're not quite sure if his mouth is still sore or not, but he does still have sutures, so that has to be bugging him. His appy was good following the surgery for a few days, so not quite sure why it's falling off now unless it was the ABs or something else going on in his mouth. We will definitely have a white Christmas even if we get no more snow between now and then. :-D

Thanks to all for the healing vines for our big guy. We will post the report later this evening after our vet visit at 4 today.

Anne taking over for Liz.
Today

+1.5 282, 0.6oz 11%
+2.5 298, 0.3oz 8%; 1/4PP with 2.5mg pepcid ac

+5 321, 0.9oz 11%

Looks like flat yellow, creeping up toward pink. Zener's appetite is not great, and having to feed 11% to get him to eat. We're off to the vet at 4 pm for a check, and if all looks okay with his mouth, a dosecrease is coming! :YMSIGH:

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282;+2.5 298;+5 321; vet@4 ATr

Bummer on the appetite and the numbers  :YMSIGH: I hope your vetty visit goes well.

We have been above freezing a lot here. We are getting rain/possibly a little snow today (a 'wintry mix', sounds festive, huh? )

Re: 12/19 Zener AMPS 317;+1.5 282;+2.5 298;+5 321; vet@4 ATr

Vines back at ya for the vetty visit! I hope Zener's mouth looks good. I may be knocking on your condo door for more advice after Kitty's extraction today. Looks like you've nursed Zener through his experience very well!

I love that you made a yurt of sorts for him. It gives me ideas.

Also sending him healing vines and hope the vetty visit goes well. Zener...I believe the gauntlet has been thrown on the table!!!! Dosecrease coming.

Princess Gracie has asked for extra brushing this week so she will look simply divine for Auntie Lizbean's visit!

Good luck at the Vetty for little Zener. I hope all goes well and we can get Zener's appy back again. Sorry on the snow.

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519 Vet report dosecrease ATrak

Back from the vet with a good report. Gums and stitches look good, no inflammation, no signs of infection, no fever and positive signs of healing at the excision sites. Our vet asked us when his appy started to decrease and when we had stopped the bupe, which we had not thought about. Looks like he started feeling worse when we decreased and stopped the bupe. Our vet thought he could still be having some pain and soreness in his mouth post-procedure and gave us some more bupe. We are to call tomorrow and report on how he is doing. We gave him a dose about an hour before his PM meal and he ate more at one time than he has in a couple of days. He also is acting like he has more energy and wanted to have a picnic!

The not so good part of the report, our vet was concerned about his long stretch of high numbers and wanted us to up his insulin to 2 units tonight for a couple of days and then reduce. We were hesitant to increase that much and also at the same time give the bupe, as well as dose hop. We had been contemplating a 0.25 increase tonight anyway if we got a good mouth report, so we compromised and increased from a s1.5 to a 1.75. We were having trouble with the micro dosing anyway and this is a bit easier to measure. We will monitor him closely the next couple of days, as we usually do. And not panic if we see NDW! Zener's PMPS was way up at 519, but we took this only about 30 minutes after getting back from the vet, so expect some of that was due to the vet trip.

+11 0.15mL Bupe, FDCK
PMPS 519, 1st cycle @1.75u, 1.35oz 8%

@Melissa and Bailey - the poor appetite is worse in some ways than the high numbers!

@Kathy - the big guy's mouth looked really good, but the vet thought he could still be having some pain as well as the stitches bugging him. I'm not sure we are having a typical dental experience but are happy to try and help!

@Ann & Tess - thanks for the snowflakes, we love 'em!

@Marje - thanks for the healing vines, the vet visit went better than we had hoped. We are relieved he is healing and all looked good. Gauntlet thrown and dosecrease given, paws crossed! So nice the princess is preparing for Auntie Lizbean's visit, she is honored!

@Ann & Maggie - thanks for the luck! Zener' appy seems a bit better already after a little bupe and a day without ABs. Although no fresh snow today, we still have plenty and a white Christmas will be had in Flagstaff!

We'll be watching Zeners numbers closely tonight - that PMPS looked like vet visit influenced. And with a new dose, sometimes we see NDW. Hope everyone has a calm and lovely Monday evening.

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519 Vet report ATrak

HI guys,
Happy to hear that there is no infection and that Zener is just having some residual pain from the sutures. Eating again after taking the Bupe is a good sign. Now that his mouth is on the mend, he'll probably come down in bgs, so keep a close eye on him.

It doesn't look as if we're going to have any appreciable snow in the near future. No doubt it will come just in time for Xmas travel!! Everyone here is climbing the walls, waiting for the snow. And now it's even gotten warm again (a great wind came through today and scared Rusty!). I'm itching to try out my new snowshoes (Atlas Electras: they look like they'll be great).

Have a good evening, even though there's no new snow to shovel

Ella & Rusty

Feel better, Zener buddy. Do you need some more chicken soup? KTSS is on the way, making post-dental stops at Kitty's and your place.
Rusty

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519 Vet report ATrak

So glad to hear your vetty visit went well, I have been thinking about you guys today. Good that the vet had some ideas for you, I hope the bupe does the trick!

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519 Vet report ATrak

aw, Zener...good to hear!!!

fully with you on the increase....
sounds like an excellent and cautious decision...

i'd do a snow dance for you...but it might backfire and land here...we got up to 62 degrees today!

@Ella & Rusty - we are delighted he is eating after the bupe, and he has eaten more in an hour than he did his entire morning cycle. And he asked for food, rather than us following him everywhere and sticking a bowl under his nose. The Atlas Electras are wonderful, I have a pair and absolutely love them, especially the ease of getting them on and off!

@Melissa & Bailey - we feel grateful our vet emails us on Sundays, listens to what we say and works with us rather than telling us what to do! Paws crossed the bupe is doing the trick!

@Celi - thanks for the support! We were a little hesitant to go up a full 0.5u, but are prepared to increase again if numbers still stink in a couple of days. We were a litte nervous about going up that much and adding bupe back in at the same time. Awww, please....a snow dance? We need more, really, helps prevent forest fires...in the spring and summer! Love the pic!

Zener is eating better already after one dose of bupe. His numbers are absolutely yucky, but we have paws crossed this changes for the better soon.

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525 Vet report ATrak

Aw, Celi, that picture is too funny!    Sure is a lot easier to laugh when Zener is eating well! :-D

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525 Vet report ATrak

Glad the report was mostly good. I see Ella already mentioned that the BG could head down as soon as Zener's pain decreases. This could be a pretty temporary dose increase!

Thanks for all the support in our dental condo. I wouldn't say it hurt me as much as it hurt Kitty, but I have the ability to fear in anticipation, which he probably doesn't. One of us needs an adult beverage!

I would love to know what consistency food you are giving Zener. I have over-pureed the FF for now, but just looking ahead...

I hope tomorrow brings better numbers.

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525 Vet report ATrak

Glad that you got Zener into the vet and everything looked good. I sure hope the extra juice and bupe help the big guy. At least his appy picked up and he wanted a picnic. Yay! Hope you both have a great night!

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525 Vet report ATrak

Glad to hear that Zener's mouth is healing nicely and that the bupe is helping with his appetite. No one feels much like eating when they are in pain. Good old bupe comes to the rescue! Good luck with the dosecrease. Hoping y'all see some better numbers soon!

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525 Vet report ATrak

At least you know the higher numbers aren't due to any residual dental issues. That's a good thing. Hopefully, the bupe will do it's job along with the dosecrease and Zener will be back in better numbers.

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525;+2 419;+3 381;+4 349 Vet ATr

Stinkus pinkus beats raunchy red!
PMPS 519, 1st cycle @1.75u, 1.35oz 8%
+1 525, 0.90z 8%
+2 419, 0.6oz 8%
+3 381, 0.35oz 8%
+4 349, 0.25oz 8%

Not likely seeing these numbers come down from the 1st dose of the dosecrease so perhaps this is from the bupe controlling his pain better. We feel a little "stupid" that we didn't realize the connection between stopping the bupe and his steadily worsening numbers.

@Kathy - yes, Ella reminded us about the drop in BGs as Zener's pain decreases and that is what we suspect we are seeing first. We will be checking and watching carefully as the new dose kicks in plus the bupe. Liz will reply about the food in your condo. Cheers!

@Melissa and Mr T - we have paws crossed the combo of juice and bupe gets the big guy in better numbers.

@Georgia - we were really tickled his mouth was looking good and we could stop the ABs early. He ate quite a bit better tonight after only one dose of the bupe, thank goodness.

@Sienne - we were relieved no infection and his mouth was healing well. Our vet really wanted us to go up 0.5u tonight and we had to do some work to convince her we weren't comfortable adding two things - the bupe and a big increase - at the same time. We are to call and check in with her tomorrow and we have a return visit next week for a final mouth check.

Liz is leaving in the morning to visit family in Tucson (5 hours away) and to meet Gracie, Marje and their gang while she is in Tucson! So, Zener and I will be hard at work getting better numbers by the time Liz gets home on Friday. I'll be doing morning and night duty, so I need all the paws crossed possible that I can measure up the right dose at 6 am!

Thanks everyone for checking in tonight on how things went with Zener's vetty visit. :YMHUG:

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525;+2 419;+3 381;+4 349 Vet ATr

Liz (and Anne) - thanks for the food info! Kitty isn't too hungry, I guess, but at least now I know it isn't because of my cooking. :-D

Looking forward to, uh, yummy yellows instead of stinkus pinkus tomorrow!

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525;+2 419;+3 381;+4 349 Vet ATr

Anne, good luck tomorrow with being the sole bean-in-charge! Morning duty is a challenge  Zener is looking better already which is awesome. Feel free to send him our way for some bounce-clearing lessons - Bailey would love a visit!

Re: 12/19 Zener PMPS 519;+1 525;+2 419;+3 381;+4 349;+6 376

We got close to yellow, but on the way up now. Hoping to see this sort of cycle in the rear view mirror, soon!
PMPS 519, 1st cycle @1.75u, 1.35oz 8%
+1 525, 0.90z 8%
+2 419, 0.6oz 8%
+3 381, 0.35oz 8%
+4 349, 0.25oz 8%
+6 376, 0.35oz 8%

@Kathy - we are hoping for yummy yellows tomorrow. And we hope Kitty feels more like eating tomorrow! ;-)

@Melissa & Bailey - I know you understand about morning duty struggles! We will send Zener to visit Bailey for bounce clearing lessons and an extra session or two of LTS!

Hoping to see a little less PU/PD tomorrow and better numbers with the bupe and dosecrease. Paws crossed! Ni NI LL! I-)
