Little furry b@$^@&ds got the dry food knocked off the refrigerator last night. Going to have to lock it in the garage...

It hasn't even been a week, but Chester's numbers are still running really high (400-500) with 1 U Lantus in the morning and 1 U in the evening. We run our first curve this weekend. I called the vet this morning, but she said this wasn't unusual and that it can take time for Chester to get regulated, and as long as he doesn't have any other symptoms of anything that he's probably OK.

How long did it take before you saw significant improvement in your cat's BG numbers?
Maybe i should switch him off the Friskies to the Grreat Choice?

Well that is as different as the cat with Maxwell he went from 485when he was dxed to OTJ in two weeks...Autumn just now after 7 months of treating her I finally have her tightly regulated and have started easing her down the dosing scale as she earns reductions. Of course there are some varibles there, Maxwell was caught early and treatment started immediately, Autumn was allowed to go untreated for over 10 months. With Autumn Lantus worked okay on, but she is doing so much better on Levemir, not so much in her BGs as they were acceptable on Lantus but I switched her to Lev on the recommentation of her vet due to the fact that Lantus made her grumpy and tense.

Both of mine were adopted as diabetics from DCIN so they are kind of special cases.

Everyone's different. We don't know how long Chester's blood sugar was bad. We took him to the vet when we figured out that something was wrong, but he might have had trouble for a few months before we figured it out. He's handling the Lantus well (no obvious side effects at this point) but it's just not working the miracles I'd hoped it would. It IS early and it IS a pretty small dose. I just need to be patient...

You've been on the dose at least 7 days now.

If you can get some mid-cycle tests in the +5 to +7 time, you may follow the dose adjustment guidelines for increase if the nadir values support doing so (I suspect they may, but only testing will prove it!)
