Off to the vet in a bit. Shooting high last night and this morning... he seems less itchy on this face this morning and isn't squinting his left eye. Stil going back and forth on whether or not to initiate a dosage increase. Am shooting 1.0 here this morning and will check back in later with the vet's recommendations. I've gone and bought half unit syringes so I can be prepared. If we're going to increase, I want to start tonight so I have the weekend to monitor him and do spot checks and a curve as well as get some ketone readings.

TGIF, LL!

Re: 12/17 Willie AMPS 390

Good luck at the vets... yes it would be great to get some mid-cycle checks in, so you can see how low he goes (and about when)... it sure looks like a dosecrease may be in order for Willie so if you do go up to 1.25, we'd like to wish you good luck, hope it brings him down into the yellows (at least), once any 'NDW' (New Dose Wonkiness!) settles down!

Re: 12/17 Willie AMPS 390

Back from the vet! She is very pleased with how his skin infection is clearing up, and it looks like we'll be extending his clavamox for at least another week (so, at least 2 more weeks).

We discussed his dosage and have decided to move him from 1.0 to 1.5 units BID. It seems likely that his skin issues are food allergy related, so we will be switching to venison in the next week or so and starting a 3+ month food trial. She wants to monitor his supplement ingredients as well. It does concern me that he went all itchy within a couple days of starting new ones, but it hasn't been a continuous reaction, so I'm not convinced they are the problem.

We also discussed starting him on B12 to address any potential neuropathy issues. She liked the idea and indicated that an injectable would have more success than the oral (she indicated, I think correctly, that if your kitty has any GI tract issues, which willie may, then absorption may become an issue). We were going over the instructions with the tech after the vet left and I noticed that the active ingredient in the supplement was cyanocobalamin and not methylcobalamin. So we didn't go with that. Was majorly bummed as the bottle was only $20 and would have lasted me forever.

We also discussed the possibility of a prescription carb-absorption blocker. I questioned the need, though... given that Willie is, at this point, eating an extremely high protein diet, I'm not sure there are really many carbs to block!

Lastly... Willie gained weight! At first, I didn't understand the scale, so I didn't think it was much, but he's gained 12 ounces (3/4 lb)
in two weeks! Hoping we can keep that up!

Going to do some mid-curve spot checks today and then have a little shopping to do. The JCPenney outlet had some great prices on pet beds. Picked up a doughnut and a pillow style last week and the kitties loved them, so going go grab a couple more. Willie is sitting in his now, and, on cue, the sun just started shining right on him. yeah, someone should have a nice afternoon!

Thanks for all the well-wishes!

Re: 12/17 Willie AMPS 390 ... +8~232

Numbers lower than expected today... could that be due to a potential bounce up due to the vet visit? Going to head out for a bit... give my poor guy a break from the hourly pokes!

AMPS 390
+4 320
+5 317
+6 283
+7 227
+8 232

Even though the vet and I had discussed bumping Willie to 1.5, with a pre-shot of 232 (which was also his +8), I decided to keep him at one unit for now. If we venture back up into the 300s this weekend (which I suspect we will), then we'll increase then.

Hoping that was the right call!

Good report! Do you think it might be better to increase by .25 instead of .5? That's what the dosing advisors usually recommend.
Have a good weekend and get in some good tests!!

Re: 12/17 Willie PMPS 232, +2~387

I'm a bit nervous trying that as I'm worried that I won't be able to get an accurate measurement on the syringe.

Willie's +2 jumped to 387. *sigh* He gets one of his supplements only at night. Was wondering if maybe that was making him go high, but it's a pancreatic supplement that doesn't have any added sugars, but does has dried alfalfa juice, yeast defatted wheat germ, buckwheat juice and buckwheat seed. Hopefully he'll see a similar drop tonight as he saw earlier today... we did start at a very similar place. It's just bugging me how quickly he jumped.

Going to go with the 1.5 tomorrow.

thanks all for the suggestions. picking up ketostix in the morning and we'll be testing throughout the weekend.
