Re: 12/17 Max AMPS 237

Still good numbers... and I must comment on what a good lookin' cat your Max is. I love the coloring.

Re: 12/17 Max AMPS 237

Those low 200's are perfect, because you are away at work. As long as he is under renal threshold, it's not doing damage to his organs and he shouldn't be dropping too low during the day.

Be happy with those numbers!! :-D

I agree, he is beautiful! ooops Handsome!

Re: 12/17 Max AMPS 237

Thanks y'all! It's so nice to talk cats with people who know and love them. Alska's pic looks to good to be true he's that perfectly cute! And Lucian! Aww...he holds a special place because he looks just like a gray cat I had, GA Figaro, who we thought maybe had a little Russian Blue ancestry he was so unusually colored with dark gray, almost blue-ish coat and bright golden eyes. I love the endless varieties and personalities. Of all the cats I've had over the years, Max is the one that can hold a bit of grudge sometimes, and I've been gettin' the cold shoulder lately with all the poking.

Re: 12/17 Max AMPS 237

I agree with everyone else: Max is quite a strikingly handsome kitty! :-D

I know you've been at the pokey-pokey for a while now, but I thought I might share this with you. I had to spend quite a bit of time to get little, feral kitten Michelangelo on board with the testing so I wrote this up to help others with similar difficulties in the testing process. Maybe you can glean some ideas from it that will make Max actually look forward to his tests. :o ;-)

Re: 12/17 Max AMPS 237

Got to admit, we got some beautiful kitties!

Vet says Lucian is a British Blue mix, the Russian Blues have a much larger bone structure and the chances of him having the RB blood is slim. Lucian is very fine boned, almost delicate. At 8.5 lbs, what do you expect? 9lbs is his normal weight, he isn't big boned at all. We had a Russian Blue mix stray that lived in a box on our porch for a couple years, he was huge and his face was about 7 inches across, BIG boy. Lucian was about 2 yo and cocky and that big boy wooped him so many times! That's the reason Lucian right ear is 'scalloped' on the outer edge, from all the fights with 'Chucky'. Cat reminded you of the Chucky Doll in the movie, big round face.

Re: 12/17 Max AMPS 237

I would agree with that...beautiful kitties all around in this group! Interesting about the two breeds. I guess they look similar in coloring but still very different. Figaro probably had a some Russian Blue in him. He sounds like Chucky, a big, big boy. He was quite the hunter in his youth, but became my big sweetie when he got older.

I am totally up for any suggestions to make testing better and will definitely take a look at your link KPassa. I was looking at your 3 step doc earlier today and thought it was great. Max and I have come a long way. In the beginning, I had to have my mom hold him while I tested. Now I can do it on my own, although if my mom is available, I still use her. She cuddles him and he purrs through it all. I don't think the prick hurts cause he never flinches. Max just hates sitting still, very much is own kitty with a mind of his own. He also doesn't like to be picked up or carried. Big cuddle bug but on his terms.

PMPS 166 tonight. I'll be watching Max close tonight!

That's Mikey's problem: he hates sitting still and he's not even remotely a lap cat no matter how hard we both try. I think he's getting to the point where he wants to sit on my lap; he's just really awkward about it and doesn't know how to do it properly. Too much physical contact throwing off his game or something.

Interesting isn't it. I had a part feral cat once too, although, until I read your doc, I didn't realize it. We adopted her as a young feral kitten. She was a sweet cat, but never quite got over some of her wildness, which really was fear. She wanted love and would see the other kitties getting it, but it was always hard for her, very, very skittish.

Just read your testing doc. Wow... such a great doc explaining what works, what doesn't work, and why. When I wrote my other reply, I hadn't read it yet, but I've come to some of the same conclusions after experience. I also learned some too. So much better if I had it up front when starting out. I have found that if I test in a couple of the same locations in the home, I'm better off. I can now show Max the "treat treat" container and shake it and show him the meter bag, so he knows what is involved, and he'll start walking to where we do his tests. He LOVES his treat treats! That's probably the biggest thing I've learned. He has to think he chose it, and then we're better off. And, as soon as I dab the drop of blood from his ear, he is up and away and ready for his treat treat. Just like you said, he has learned to sit still just long enough for one test. All of that doesn't reflect what a huge cuddle bug he is. He will jump up and lay on someone for hours and purr if they'll let him, but try and put him on your lap...no way.

It's definitely all about making the cat think it's his choice. Or, as my brother likes to say, "they've got you trained!" With Henry, for example, he's learned that when he wants to come in for the night, he just has to pretend he's going to run off again and I'll bring out the treat bag to get him in the house for the night. ohmygod_smile
