Yesterday's thread

I unwisely stayed up until 1:15 reading a book. :bookworm: I knew 5:45 would come early, but I was into the book.

What I didn't know was that it would be a butt scoot morning meaning that at 7:30 I would need to clean multiple scoots. I should have guessed she would have a bigger drop (she seems to have a drop, then have a few cycles where it's not terrible exciting, then a drop).

I should have thought about the fact that since I'm not going home for Christmas that I would need to make sure to finish getting everything packed up so I can go to the post office before it closes at 12:30.

Needless to say, current Alicia is pretty annoyed with past Alicia (this is a frequent occurrence, to the point that past Alicia sometimes jokes about how future Alicia will be annoyed). Is there a nap in the future? Maybe, although I also have to go grocery shopping this afternoon, and I can't send the bf, because he (and I) are of that age when sometimes when you sneeze, you throw your back out.

It's days like these I contemplate taking up coffee (why does it smell so good and taste so bad!)

I hope everyone else's Saturday is more relaxing than this hot mess currently is. (It's not THAT much of a hot mess).

She gets about half a can (a 3 oz can) at shot time. Then she gets small snacks at +1, +2, and +3 as needed. I try to have her food picked up by +6 at the latest, but it all depends on work/sleep. And she sometimes eats all that I've set out, and sometimes just nibbles at it. I was feeding 5-6% at +1 to slow the drop, but then switched to feeding it at preshot because feeding it at +1 didn't seem to help. Then she started getting more blues so I pulled it completely and am just using it as needed. Her normal food is mostly 2-3%. It depends on how much she likes whatever I put out at that moment. I think she responds pretty well to carbs. Every time on this dose that she's hit the 40's, she comes up right away with some 12-14%, and I typically have only had to give it to her that first time, and then I can go back to 5-6% or 3%.
I have some time now to play with her food - in theory I'm working a couple of days next week, but no one else will be in the building, so I can play around with timings. And starting Friday I have off until January 3 (or 4th? I honestly can't remember). And even after that classes don't start until the 22nd, so I can work from home mornings to play around.
I also don't know if her bg has been higher at times because the solensia and gabapentin aren't quite getting rid of all her discomfort due to the arthritis. So the vet is looking into adding something else, and that will maybe play into things as well (although that's a future thing).
Do you have suggestions on tweaking the carbs and times? I'm game to try most things.

Beautiful numbers this cycle.

I feel you and the busy schedule. Hopefully you made it to the post office in time and all the gifts are on their way.
I'm sorry you'll be missing Christmas with your family this year.
What book are you reading? I'm always looking for new book recommendations

We wish you a peaceful day

Not a criticism, how long did you try this before determining it didn't work? Food trials can take some time before being able to spot a discernable pattern.

Darn pickiness. I know it all too well:rolleyes:

Poor baby :(. Have you looked into or maybe ask your vet about adding a daily supplement like Cosequin or Fish Oils?

Oh boy, Alicia. You do need a nap, for sure!
You finally got time to read and then boom! it's 1:15am babe! And Scoot lines waiting for you int he morning
Hope the rest of the day goes well for you Alicia. Sending you :bighug:

I have days where I'm better at keeping the SS up to date - we started using the 6% at preshot on 11/24 and I stopped on 12/9 when I started seeing more blues and fewer greens. We had been trying the 5-6% at +1/+1.5 for a couple of weeks before that (ish - that was during and right after my show opened, so mush brain was pretty present), and she was still having pretty good drops at +2. Going back to 5-6% is definitely something I can try again if we think it'll help.

I used cosequin for awhile, I was using the capsules I could sprinkle on her food, and she then refused to eat (this was pre falling out of remission). So then I found cosequin in a treat form, and she mostly loved that, but that was also pre falling out of remission, and once she was out of remission, it seemed to cause some spikes in her bg, so I stopped and stuck just with the gaba. I could probably try again and see if she's more okay with it being mixed in her food. We never did try fish oil, so maybe that's something to try?
Her vet did text me today (I am so here for vets who are in the digital age) to suggest trying a low dose of metacam. I've been busy doing other things today, so haven't had a chance to look into it and see if it's something I want to try.
I appreciate all the advice!

Ain't that just the way it goes!:joyful:
No nap, unfortunately, but I did get packages sent, and groceries got, and now I'll hang out for a bit until shot time and then make dinner. Bed will probably be earlier though!

I meant to respond earlier! The book is, uh, of questionable genre. So if that sort of thing is something you're interested in, I can message a title. It's, uh, definitely on the spicy spicy side.
