Simon was not as thrilled this morning getting his ear poked. It is probably because I am having to poke him in the same ear all the time. For some reason, his right ear does not bleed as well as the left. I guess this is pretty normal? I have put neosporin on his ear but I think it still is a little sore. I'm going to keep trying the right ear but it can get pretty frustrating for both of us if I have to poke numerous times. Other than that, Simon is looking good this morning, eating well and playing.

Hi Georgia & Simon,
I have the same problem with Rusty's ears. It is typical that one ear bleeds better than the other. We haven't even tried the other (non bleeding) ear yet, because I don't want to poke even more times to get blood! I recently learned that the blood in the ear flows DOWN from the tip, so if you put pressure on the ear below where you are poking, you create a dam. Then you can massage the ear above the dam and get a blood drop more easily. Hope this helps. it has helped me with Rusty.

Thanks Ella for the great advice about the ear poke and putting pressure below where I want to poke. I'm going to give it a try tonight.

Georgia..very nice numbers for Simon today!!! I think I've heard that most cats have one ear that bleeds better than the other. I know Gracie does; we are able to easily get blood from both ears but her right ear tends to give us a nice drop and the left has to sometimes be massaged just a bit. Good luck!!
