No Shot, No tramadol this morning..
expecting higher numbers this evening...will deal with appropriately...at least higher numbers I can safely work with..
His appetite still ~meh~
although he runs to the food dish, he IS hungry, just not eatting...well without prodding..

This evening, could you do a quick calculation on how many calories per day (or for yesterday) Mowgli is getting? If he's not getting enough calories and it looks like he's hungry but won't eat, I think you may need to get him seen by your vet. There could be something that's still sore in his mouth. Will he eat treats or is he doing the same thing -- looking interested but turns away? I wonder if he's nauseated from the meds.

Also, do you know whether your vet took post-dental x-rays? It's recommended with extractions. If the vet didn't, you might want to ask the vet about getting a set of films. If there's a piece of tooth left, it could be contributing to the inappetence.

If you can't get enough food into him I would syringe feed him for a few days to make sure his liver stays healthy and maintain his weight.

Racing to the food bowl and smelling or licking and walking away is a classic sign of nausea. Maybe he will improve off the tramadol. I know antibiotics can make stomach's feel not so perfect so that's probably what's happening.

If things don't improve though and you may want to ask for an anti nausea medication. Metoclopromide is often prescribed by vets but this works on dogs - not really for cats (long complicated explanation when stomach motility isn't the cause of the nausea). Ondansetron/dolasetron has been proven more effective for nausea and vomiting in cats and is available quite cheaply now that it can be bought in generic form.

I learned a lot about nausea in cats dealing with Maverick's FHL - he didn't eat any food orally for 7 weeks. When I finally convinced our vet to prescribe a true anti nausea medication or Maverick he started eating on his own. He would race me to the food bowl and just walk away and I'd be so disappointed.

It will be interesting to see what his BG does off the tramadol.

I can tell you without calculating he is NOT getting enough calories..
Treats he will eat, tuna he will eat...
so he WILL eat, just not alot...
PS. i blended his food and syringed him about....hmmmm well i have to figure out this syringe now..
i clearly didnt syringe enough..will have to give more
 
The feline assisted feeding group recommends you try and get in a 5.5oz can of food every day to prevent weight loss. Every cat is different though - some cats need more some cats need less.
