Good morning all,

First, I'd like to ask you to be felxible when reading my today's post. It's only partially related to juice but it's on this forum that the members who knows Small Kitty are. We're now close to a year into that feline diabetes thing and it's getting better but barely. His young system is still bouncing around as soon as he runs to low. I don’t post that often cause I know I’ll be criticized with my dosing strategy. Thing is, when he’s to low he will stick on everything but blow or even less green. To high and he will touch green but jump like a super ball thrown hard on a wall. Don’t hesitate to give your opinion, I might be off track completely.

Main question transferred to main cat health forum
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now what I’m wondering is if these high numbers and bad behaviors could be due to Small Kitty trying to make me pay the price for his frustration. The case being, a little lesson of well behaving when I caught him in action will need to put in place. If there is no ‘’revenge’’ of his part this is useless, I don’t know. The internet is confusing in regards of bad behaviors, some say it’s stress and you should do nothing but rewarding good behaviors, other give advice on dissuasion some others reprisal. Don’t see me as a impulsive violent person, I’m not, but I could not remain passive this morning.

Any advise would be useful, on dosing or anything behavior related. Who knows if both are not linked ? Small Kitty receive lots of attention *(he did receive attention before and after the ‘’incident’’), he is in a good environment but he still su… in numbers and attitude
Oups, I’m sorry..

Nice days and good numbers to you.

I'm not sure what you mean by bad behaviour? accidents on the floor? scratching furniture?
peeing in your shoes is intentional.... but missing the litter box is not.

I have never had any luck with swatting a cat or spraying with water. I had a roommate who did that in college and my cat pooped in her shoe and on her pillow. It was intentional. When she closed the door and locked my cat out of her room, my cat pooped right in the middle of the floor by her closed door so that she would step in it. My cat did not like being sprayed with water and let her know that.

Litter box issues usually mean something is wrong. If they have pain, they can associate it with the litter and avoid it. They will seek soft rugs or clothes nearby because it isn't scratchy like litter. IF the behaviour goes on for quite a while, then it can be really hard to retrain them to go back to "normal" litter box use. Diabetic kitties are more likely to get urinary tract infections. So this should be checked when there are behavioural issues.

Cats are smart so if you praise them....for the behaviour you want, they will start trying to please you, especially if they get rewarded with treats.
I have a young one now who will go to her scratcher every morning, first thing, look at my husband while she's scratching, because she wants him to pet her and praise her. Petting is a big deal for her.

We all slip now and then and yell... or stomp... or even throw a pillow ....

as for your progress.....
from looking at your chart.....
I will actually say that I think you need to work on catching those greens....
I can find a green nearby or a big empty lack of testing space every time you see red....
the regular greens are causing those reds..... ( big bounce)
and when there was a black.... it was very likely a very low green that caused that bounce.
So you need to work on catching that, and that could mean learning how many hours it takes for Small kitty to come down from that red.
I think there actually is a pattern there but it's getting missed.

The other possibility and since your cat is so young, is that there is a major health issue that hasn't shown itself yet which makes it harder to regulate his numbers but IT IS still possible.
I think in Small Kitty's case, it's the inconsistency. But with that, we all have lives and other matters that need our time and we all do the best we can.

What medical tests has he had?
IF he were mine, I'd want to get an ultrasound each year to see if there are any organs that are changing. ( My cat had two enlarged nodes near her spleen, others can have issues showing up with their pancreas or liver or kidneys....)

What medical tests has he had?

Thanks you .. oups, dont know your name,

Small Kitty had a full scale health exam when I brought him to the vet. I remember seing the vet perform ultrasound,
getting devices into his mouth (with camera ?) and all possible blood work. The only thing they could find was sugar
level with no kidney or any other organs affected. There has been UTI in the past and resolved by antibiotics. Last year
the peeing problem surfaced and but the vet didn't see any infection.

Thanks again for your help, this situation is so difficult that it seems there is no way it can be resolved...

I'm not sure what you mean by bad behaviour?
.
Thanks again for your testimony, it's nice to have someone with a similar story.
I mean bad behavior because it's in direct relation with not being allowed to go outside because
of xyz reason. When I keep Small Kitty inside I know there is a chance he will take revenge in peeing somewhere
he shouldn't. It's the only time I know of he does that. Giving him a ''lesson'' on well behavior is what I could have control
over. I can't monitor his come and go to the litter box. He's using it tough...

It was not after using the litter box, but I gave them treats last night, dry chicken,
they were rolling on their back. A few hours after he was releasing on my stuff.
A computer with hard surface with no interesting smell of finish and the over made
of steal smelling garlic and other food prepared..
.

I think there actually is a pattern there but it's getting missed.
Green seem to come at the wrong time, at 6 at the morning. There is night where I can't sleep and I test during the night but it often
negative. During the week-end, when I can test every 3h. or so he stick on high numbers.

So you think there is a pattern and I should stick on reds ? With Levemir they are at the end of the cycles, way after 6.
I still waiting to catch a fall then a rise up.

Thanks again for your help.

Wish you a good evening.

For those with a sanitary situation with their cat you can look at the post in the main cat health
forum. (see the link above).

Some very helpful members gave great clue on what can be happening and how to palliate to the
situation.
.

Thanks for all of you for your help. Small Kitty and myself are in a good mood now.

Left to resolve is the bouncing issue but that's a bigger challenge that might take some very
long time to resolve, if at all.

Wish all of you a very good night.

Sébastien.
