I think I might have had a fur shot this morning - I can't really be sure though. Such a tiny dose I didn't feel wetness.
It should be cycle 10 on the reduced .50 dose. Still amazed at his training wheels keeping him from bumping into the blues with a reduction :)

I've been slacking off in his numbers. More on this in a bit.

Can you guys answer why he seems to go up in the day time and down again at PMPS? I think its because he normally eats in the morning - he rarely eats between +6 and +9 in the daytime. He seems to eat consistently through the night it seems though. Remember he is a free feeder - he rarely eats more than an ounce at a visit. He is often eating in the hour or right before preshot testings.

I know I probably need more data. But I'd still love some insight.

I will be posting a behaviour question later when my calls are over with.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 - help w numbers

Hi Karrie...thanks for visiting our condo the last couple of days and this morning. As you could tell, I've been pretty busy with Gracie PLUS trying to get all the Xmas stuff done. Maverick is looking awesome!!! We all give fur shots so if you did, hopefully it will just affect this cycle...ECID. I always smell of Gracie after I give her a shot because if you give a fur shot, you will be able to smell it!!

I'm not an expert so someone else may have better thoughts...more accurate ones. But I wonder if what you are seeing is he's hitting his nadir at mid cycle and then slowly rising but he's getting that Lantus second dip before his PMPS. When Gracie isn't doing weird stuff like the last couple of cycles on her new dose, she does this same thing. Lantus is designed to have a second dip later in the cycle...some cats get it, some don't. So maybe that is what you are seeing.

Glad you liked Gracie's pic....I have others but one in particular where she is on top of the entertainment center looking down. It is very cute. Hope you aren't freezing. Great job with Maverick!

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 - help w numbers

Thanks Marjorie - I forgot about that second dip. I'm getting really sleep deprived - which will be the reason for my post later. I can't complain though - being up all night to test like you guys had to - I'd be a zombie in the daytime.

I was watching Maverick sleeping beside me on the couch today and he was shivering. I think great, he must have plummeted low - tested at 4.9 (88). So maybe he was having a really good dream? He's also been sleeping with an eye open. Its really freaky - he's asleep but his eye isn't closed.

Edit - the house was really warm this morning - 23 Celcius and he was really warm too.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 - help w numbers

Hello :) We've just come back to the board over the weekend, so I can't make too many comments. BUT I will say OMG IF I HAD YOUR SPREADSHEET RIGHT NOW I'D BE AWESOME!!!! Maverick is doing grrreeeaaattt!! Marco free feeds too, at least before PMPS I try to take up his food so I can get a good number (weekends only) maybe you can try that when you are around the house?

No biggie if you gave a furshot, it happens. Sometimes our little squigglebugs just won't stay still!! I can't ever smell anything when I give a furshot. I think my nose smellers are broken. ohmygod_smile

Marco sleeps with his eyes half open sometimes too. I have a civvie that sleeps like he's been run over by a car. I have to shake him sometimes to make sure he is still alive!

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 - help w numbers

Karrie:

I think you are splitting hairs. I was expecting to see more than a 20% difference. Most days, there's rarely a 10% difference between mid-cycle and PMPS. I suspect you're over thinking the numbers. Like Celia said, Maverick's SS is gorgeous. There is a natural variation in numbers as well as meter variance. Don't get wound up int he tiny details.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65

I do get wrapped up in tiny details. I expect things to be as they seem and logical/linear. Like the dose decrease working ohmygod_smile Its like its too good to be true and work, even though from others spreadsheets I see that it works. And all them OTJ parties that I love on FDMB.

Ok - we'll continue to go with the flow. I'm sure I'll throw out the same question in a week or two - please hit me when I do.

Now my behaviour question. I know I've asked before and have probably forgotten all the good advice. Once my work day is over I'll go searching for the past posts.

He wants company at night time. He's not hungry or thirsty or in pain. He just wants to be cuddled and played with and he meows and meows until I get up. Even just going into the other room to sleep he lies down and sleeps contently. The love seat is only 3.5' long, there is a mouse in the tv room (not sleeping there), and I'm sleeping on an airmattress and my back is killing me and my migraines are more frequent (triggered by my neck).

I've tried leaving lights on. Treats and toys (not even the new organic catnip has held his interest). He sleeps all day long and quite soundly I might add - between grabbing bites of food.

So I was thinking my options were:
1. Squirt gun. I seriously would hate doing this and think it borders on cruel but this can't go on for years. Its been a couple months now.
2. Getting him a cat buddy. He wants to be friends with our dog but she does not want to be friends with him. She's almost 13 and has severe heart failure and her time with us is limited. I worry a new friend will take away love from her and make her time remaining not as good.
3. I can't block off the hallway because my dog is on serious medication - 40mg of lasix and she's only 12lbs. She uses the paper in the kitchen many times a night and she is glued to my husbands side at night time. I love that I don't have to get up with her to go potty.
4. Buy a spare bed and set up a spare bedroom maybe with his food and water and lock him in there with just me. I'd like to retrain him if possible.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 -night time meowing I need a solu

I most DEFINITELY vote for a buddy. Get a kitten from a rescue. I had 3 lumps of cats, and when at Petsmart to stock up, a rescue had some cats at the back. I just HAD to take Apple Blossom home and to my delight 2 of the 3 lumps are livelier and the miserable civvie is now best buds with the kitten.
If the dog won't be buddies, and the bedroom is out, then get a kitten.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 -night time meowing I need a solu

Karrie, I would first suggest a trip to the vet to rule out any physical ailment that may be causing the behavior.

If all checks out ok at the vet, then the best way to extinguish behavior you don't want is to ignore it. I know, it's hard to do....as Roni suggested, EAR PLUGS, close the door or put him in another room...when you reward the behavior by responding to it, it only reinforces it. It will get worse when you start to do this, that's normal, the behavior always increases before it extinguishes. It may take weeks to get rid of it, but it should work.

Make sure there's no physical problem first though!

ETA: DON"T wait until he starts exhibiting the behavior before putting him in the other room (if that's what you do)...the LAST thing you want to do is respond to the behavior in any way, so put him in there before he starts...like when you go to bed.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 -night time meowing I need a solu

After ruling out anything medical, you could try this tactic - a play session and hour or so before bedtime - tire him out a bit and he may let you sleep more.

Add in the earplugs mentioned above, and you may work on extinguishing (ie not rewarding) the behavior on a night when you don't need to be somewhere the next day.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65 -night time meowing I need a solu

Thanks guys. We've ruled out what we can medically so far. I thought once the diabetes got under control it would stop but it hasn't. The only thing we weren't able to do was blood pressure due to his anxiety at the vets office. He isn't yeowling - when I google high blood pressure in cats it seems like high blood pressure is a yowl vs just meowing. His behaviour is very normal. Its normal meowing but softer/sadder, inquisitive sometimes. Last blood work was done in October. Ruled out Hyperthyroid. I can retest him if it is recommended but will have to find a new vet to do this.

My husband won't do ear plugs. Maybe if I find a set that works he will use them. I can't find any that are just solid non foam cyclindar ear plugs though. The ones meant for swimming seem to allow all the sound in but just block water - who wouldve thought!

Ok I have more ideas to try. And I didn't think that it would get worse before it got better. He will make sure of that I'm sure.

Thanks guys.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65

Thanks for all the great ideas. I wish I had a memory better than that of a goldfish. My memory at 35 is like someone that is 80 -- I drop a lot of balls because of it.

Marjorie - I do hope you post that pic of Gracie on the entertainment stand.

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65

Look under musician supplies for soft foam earplugs - orchestra members who sit in front of the horns routinely wear them to prevent hearing impairment.

Here's one

For white noise, a small room air cleaner may do, with the added benefit of removing dust from the air. (I do this)

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65

Do Lou is kinda like this at night too Karrie a little before FD but he has gotten much much worse he gets me up several times in the night just because he needs me sometimes its food related but most of the time its attention he lives in my bedroom due to being blind and he will beat on the door(to get me up) a lot as well we have shock mats at door but he has learned how to move them aside so thats no good for us its hard when you love them but want to sleep as well and my migraines are worse with lack of sleep so I can relate I am really no help in a solution since honestly I think another cat may help and may make matters much worse you know your cat better then anyone do you think he would like another cat ?? so many cats do not I think you have to really know the cat before jumping into rescue or a new kitten JMO anyway

Re: 12/13 Maverick AMPS 65

I think Do Lou has an excuse then :) :) :) I think Maverick's eye sight is well based on how easily he catches the feathers that zip by during play time.

My friend talked me out of another cat 100% today. She also said it could make matters worse and compound my problem. I don't think I'll go there.

Can you set up a bed for him in your bedroom? Marco likes me to be with him too - he has his own little bed next to my side of the bed in a little corner (so he can see me) and I lay him down in his bed, sit on the floor with him, then give him kisses and tell him ni ni. He just really loves my company, he wants more attention the better he feels.

Before Marco's Mom passed away, sometimes we'd have FOUR cats on the bed with us. All on my side of course, dbf loves the cats but never really had cats of his own so sleeping on his side of the bed is a no no for him. I vote for a bed next to yours where Maverick can see you. :-D

Awwww that sounds so adorable.

We have a king sized bed. More than enough room for him. He always sleeps on my side too when he wants to sleep. Lately its been just for cuddles in the middle of the night. He'll paw at me - with his pawing getting more persistant if I don't respond. ohmygod_smile

Honestly though, I've reached the point of tolerance and we will have to fix this. I wish there was a SuperNanny to call in and fix it. But I will get to the bottom of this. If I don't fix it now, I can't imagine a year of this.

What if you grab him and put him under the covers with you and cuddle him like a hooman? Will he stay then? My civvie Angel will sometimes just stand on my tummy and I have to grab him and put him under the covers with me. If I don't he starts licking my nose and eyes....

I hope you are able to correct and help with his behavior :-) He sounds like such a sweetie!
