Frip is doing well on his "Fat Drop" lately… cat_pet_icon

I will be reducing the Dry DM before bedtime to 1/2 tbsp later this week…

I’ve been giving Frip Medi-Regal in the morning and Temptations in the evening after his shots… Since they are kibbles, I’m thinking I should replace those treats with more healthy treats as well…

What do you give your kitties as treats? He doesn’t eat/like people food (except for shrimps of course  I give him shrimps occasionally but don’t want to give that every day!!!)

I found a place where I can buy EVO kibbles locally, maybe I could use these instead (if he will eat it)?

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76 Question

HI Sylvie
I hope you are doing well. Frip is looking wonderful.

For Max the only treats I used were the purebites dehydrated chicken
pieces. He got those at shot time and whenever he was a good boy.
They sell them at Mondu. I buy the big dog sized bag and break
the pieces up for him. Walmart has them too.

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76 Question

I agree with Randi. Those purebites are very popular in my house and less expensive than the Halo Liv a Littles. I also cook up turkey cutlets with no seasoning and cut into small pieces. Then I freeze in small bags and take out as I need them. Nice amps for Frip, too. Have a great Monday!

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76 Question

I'm not sure which of these may be available in Canada. However, this is a list of low carb treats that one of the members put together.

In addition to the freeze dried chicken treats, I use a type of jerky treat that Wellness makes called Pure Delights.

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76, +5 130 - Question

Thanks for the suggestions!!!
Sienne, I’ll check the list to see what I can get here… I know I can get the Purebites this week if Randi found them.. I checked their site and they have Shrimps !!! ohmygod_smile he might like those…

Randi, I’m doing a little better… but Mondays (from 3-4 PM especially) are not going to be my day for a while… I don’t know how many weeks I’m going to relive that hour… Took me several weeks 10 years ago when I lost my previous cat. It’s hard getting used to having one cat… I was used to do/think everything in double for 10 years. I miss my baby… Frip and I are getting even closer… I guess I’m replacing Gripet as his cuddle buddy.. cat_pet_icon

((Sylvie))
I can only begin to imagine that pain. It has been 8 years that my Sasha crossed
and I miss her all of the time.

I think you will be very happy with the pure bites although I never did see shrimp
flavour. They do have an oceanfish which my gang never liked and don't buy the liver ones.
They are really really hard so they ended up in the trash.
I was never able to find many others that they have in the states. For sure better
to give him the purebites then temptations.
((hugs))

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76, +5 130 - Question

I'm not sure what Medi-Regal is, but I know that Temptations are high in carbs. There have been people here who have used that when they need to bring up BGs in a cat that won't eat wet food! That could be why Frip is getting higher numbers in the middle of the cycle...

I also use freeze dried chicken (Whole Life brand). I've seen freeze dried salmon, and some people use bonito flakes from the Asian market. Some people use Laughing Cow cheese. I would try those things before resorting to kibble, though if you have to use kibble then Evo would be a lower carb choice than Temptations.

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76, +5 130 - Question

In Alberta, I buy the Pure Bites at Walmart. I buy the chicken in the dog section and the shrimp in the cat section.
The big bags of chicken are just under $10 and the small bags of shrimp are under $3.

Re: 12/13 Frip AMPS 76, +5 130 - Question

Libby, Medi-Regal is the French name for Medi-Treats (by Medi-Cal a Canadian company) - it's the vet version of Temptations...

I never thought of buying dog treats for my cat!! Although at 23 lbs (was 26 lbs in 2009) he scares a lot of little dogs and some vets  .... I guess chicken is chicken… I'll be looking for the chicken in the dog section and the shrimp in the cat section... ;-)
