Kitty is overdue for dental. We had bloodwork done today, and the dental has been scheduled for Friday.
Kitty has FORL. We're worked with this vet before, and I know he'll be use good judgment.
He asked me to make a list of things we want special attention given to, something that can be stapled to the intake form when I bring him in. I would love to get some expert LL eyes on this list, to be sure I have everything.
My one big question is about the IV. My memory is that I should be sure an IV is prepared at the start, right?
Here's the list:
Thanks, everyone. I'm getting an early start on being nervous. I'll buy some baby food (is it Beechnut Stage 2?). Kitty also loves A/D, so he might just get a little taste of that.
He isn't on the juice now
, so I'm not planning to test when I get him home.

Here's the list:
Kathy and Kitty said:1. NO METACAM.
2. Existing conditions to watch: FORL, lytic area in jaw that's vulnerable to fracture.
4. Pre-anesthesia sedation/induction: propofol, valium. (Some ketamine has been recalled; please discuss if you plan to use ketamine.) Induction should be with an IV drug vs. a gas.
5. Anesthesia: Sevo or Isoflurane (these should not be used for induction, however, only for general anesthesia)
6. Monitoring: Blood pressure monitoring (Doppler or Cardell monitor): blood pressure, oxygen, EKG, carbon dioxide.
7. Monitoring: Cardiac monitor: pulse oximeter or cardiac monitor
8. IV catheter for fluid access
9. Warming: make sure there is a means of circulating warmth vs. one warm spot. The latter can cause burns.
11. X-rays:
a. Pre-procedure: full digital jaw x-ray. Please try to observe the lytic area in the front of the mouth as well, so that we can check progress.
b. Arthritis: Please check progression of disease in shoulders/front paws/hips
c. If there are extractions, we would like x-rays afterward to be certain there are no fragments left, because of advanced FORL.
12. Pain meds: administered post-procedure and to take home: Buprenex. Again NO METACAM due to the potential for renal failure.
