He has been drinking a lot lately and a few days ago started peeing outside the LB. I should have tested him sooner, but every time I have thought he was drinking more and tested him he would be in the low 100s or 90s. Poor Beau. I started him on .5u, which is high relative to his old dosing, but I want to get him down quickly. If he is still the same, he will be a dosing challenge as he is (was) very sensitive to insulin.

Please keep a good thought for him. He has not bee doing well in the past 6 months with his neurological issues. I have been feeling like he was fading away for the past few months.

Well, he had a good run on the OTJ train - 4 years and a few months.

Thanks, Marcy.

I got a +4 (100) and a +5 (106) because that +4 was early and lower than I really expected. For instance, Cami went from 295 to 233 at +4...., but this was Beau's pattern on his first few shots of lev. I probably will reduce him to .25u tonight, but maybe he will be an "as needed" patient.

Beau was 139 last night and I gave a token dose of .1u.

This morning he was 196 so I shot .25u (which is what I was going to reduce him to last night).

In the past he has dropped too low from BGs of 150-160, and below, on even the smallest dose I can manage (.05u). He does very well on lev, but does not follow ANY of it's "rules"!

I just gave him a smidge of cream cheese and he is now washing his face - very catly - but something he was slacking off on over the past month or so... another clue I misread. He also gave himself a long, thorough bath last night.

Paws crossed....

Hi Sheila,
so glad you had insulin at the ready for Beau - immediate injections seem to help so much, at least, that's how it was with my Pudge & his second remission (since May 2013). First was on ProZince & second after just a few days of Levemir. Just wanted to say hello & wish you & Beau well. Pudge didn't seem to follow any rules either! How is Beau doing?
Best wishes,
Sophie

Hi Sophie.

Not only is Beau not following the lev rules, he isn't following his old version of not following them! Or maybe I backed off the dose too much after that first huge response. He has barely been out of the 200s since that first cycle.

Tomorrow, if he is still in the 200s tonight and tomorrow am, I plan on raising him back to .5u. He has had such extreme responses to lev before that I didn't want to do that when I wasn't going be here - like today when I was gone from +3 until +11. (we are on an 11a/11p schedule).

I still have Cami on insulin, so I had all the supplies on hand. Except I had to get more test strips as I am keeping their meters separate and only have one Contour meter. My other one is a Target Up&Up which I really like. Strips are a tad more $$ than what I can get the Contour ones for on eBay, but I can get them locally in a matter of minutes if I have to. And with temps in the sub freezing range I would not order test strips for shipping anyway. The two meters test within a few points of each other which is good.

Other than the relapse, he is not doing well with his neurological issues. His balance seems worse lately. Like he shakes his head they way they do and loses balance, or falls asleep on the couch and sort of slides off it and then can't seem to figure out which way is up. It seems to disorient him and scare him. It doesn't help that his vision is very bad now. He always cries (sounds like a sheep bleating) no matter how carefully I pick him up and try and reassure him. My poor boy is fading away, I am afraid. Almost literally. He weighs less than 6 lbs now. Sigh.
