I slept a little better after getting an update late last night but miss Tom terribly. I called early this morning to get an update. The staff member was in the back when she picked up the phone and looking right at Tom. He was alert and looking good. He was syringed fed overnight and was about to get another.
Vet will call later. I am assuming they want him to use the litterbox before sending him home.

I am doing a lot of thinking. Tom is fighting and is not ready to go but he can't eat by himself anymore - although he tries but most ends up on the floor - the mass is large and he's in pain. I don't know if I want to continue this way for much longer. It will only continue to get worse. I don't think it's fair to him. We'll take him home and see how it goes.

Right now I just can't wait to hug him.

(((Sonia))),

My prayers are with you and (((Tom))) as you deal with the hardest part of love. He's been through so much and you've been there with him, helping him through it all. His love will always be a part of you, even if when his pain is over, yours isn't.

Hug him and love him and listen to him. He has led all through the sugar dance and he will lead now. It's wonderful that he is alert and looking good. He's feeling good today and he loves you.
Many hugs and lots of healing vines,

Ella & Rusty

That is a good plan. Make sure the vet gives you all you need to keep Tom comforatable as possible.

Re: 12/11 Tom - brief morning update

When they brought him to us in his crate, he started meowing and pawing. I took him out and he started purring and head butting. Love him.
Apparently, he couldn't get enough food today. He kept pawing, bitting the syringe and trying to bite the can. He has not gone to the litter yet but because the completely emptied him late last night and he didn't start eating until a few hours after that, it could take a few more hours. They thought it best if he went home.

We put his tshirt and harness on and, since DH was with us and driving, I opted to keep him on my lap in the car instead of the crate. First time. He was curious but calm. So cute.

We got home and he went straight for the food bowls. I fed him and he jumped right in. But then his mouth started bleeding. A lot. So i called the vet back. Thanks to the bupe, he is not in pain and his teeth are sometimes cutting into the mass. Hate it. It should stop bleeding quickly - it did - but if it doesn't I should take him back in. I really don't want to have him like this.....

We came home with extra food (A/D) to give him some extra calories, bupe, lactulose and extra needles for fluids.

What food do you normally feed him? AD has 179 calories per can. So glad he is home where he can give head butts and be loved.

We normally feed Wellness chicken or turkey and various flavours of Fancy Feast. I was looking for something higher calorie, vet said this was good so I took a couple of cans and figured I woukd look into it. Thoughts?

I am glad that Tom is there with you.

a/d is a good food for cats having difficulty eating. It can be watered down to make it thinner. It is supposed to be very palatable in taste. At the shelter where I volunteer, that is the food they syringe feed to the sick kitties.

I am keeping Tom and all of your family in my prayers.

Sonia: sending many prayers for Tom and that you will have some high quality, pain free time together in the days ahead. I'm so glad he's home with you.
