Re: 12/10 Simon AMPS 113 New Vet Visit this AM
Don't take any guff from this vet or any other.
Be clear about your intentions and that you are looking for a vet who will work with you as others said. I think it's more important to have a vet that may not know lots on FD but is more than willing to learn alongside you. Be sure the vet will listen to you when you say that you don't want a certain med given - is willing to mark your file with your preferences.
Questions that you feel are important - make a list and get answers. If you want your new vet to know about certain health issues, ask what he/she knows. Their strengths in those areas are important because the FD part is an area where you could likely control yourself I think.
Finally, take Simon's opinion into consideration. There are a couple vets at the office where I go; one vet there is a doll and all my cats like her. She is the one who does all the dental work and other stuff, but openly admits she knows squat about FD so is willing to learn with me. The other young vet is so-so. My cats don't mind her but prefer the other vet.
Good luck with the visit; I hope all goes well and you find a functional and receptive vet!
